Let’s hear the distortion and blastbeats!

Share the best metal here in the shred thread.

Kicking it off, something from the new Haiduk album ‘Exomancer’ [black metal]

    Haiduk – ‘Evil Art

Does Kyuss count? I just can’t get enough of them at the moment! The wee man (20 months) loves it in the car, maybe it’s just my headbanging and singing that amuses him…

The only “metal” that appeals to me these days is stuff that is played by awesome musicians..

    C’mon Rabea, crank one out..

    👍

    +1 for anything by kyuss
I have been loving kadavar for the last year, since stumbling across them, bloody brilliant

    Hi duck!

We’ve played a few shows with these guys recently, very convincing live.

Pffft! Mongolian metal is what it’s all about..

I guess we can skip the Sabbath as then there’d be no tasty riffs left for anyone else.
If we’re allowed Kyuss, then presumably we can veer off into desert/stoner territory?

If so, and you’ve got time to follow the smoke to the riff-filled land:

It would be rude not to include some of this too:

    And maybe some of this:

    And finally, some of this:

    John Browne from Monuments

    And Mark Holcomb from Periphery

    All truly great!! Good call

These guys do old school thrash so well:

Riffs, blast beats, heavy breakdowns, even some tapping. Tech death metal I guess:

And since we have some doom fans (go and see this band live if you can):

I’m loving these guys at the moment after seeing them support Decapitated recently:

    Amen Ra are amazing live!

Check out MGLA -Exercises in Futility. Perfect death metal songwriting.

In Flames – Clayman is a beaut.

Keeping to my theme of great musicians playing this genre, I clicked on this chap.. No idea what band he plays for, but he can sure play… and sure some of you will know his band..

This man can play a bit too.. 🥴😳

Yes he can but I find his playing incredibly dull. For me, it’s definitely a case of technique over musicality.

I saw AvL supporting Meshuggah a while back and they were good, yet boring.

Oh eff off with your Baby Metal bull plop. If that is what people consider metal these days then the genre is doomed. Give me…..

    …any day.

    Looking forward to hearing this:

    Not expecting many blastbeats.

Oh b’jezus.. that BabyMetal vid is properly dire.

I get it must be popular in Japan, yet it’s not really exportable is it 🤪🥴🤷‍♂️

Yeah, it’s bad: Generic metal riffs paired with bubblegum Japanese, schoolgirl vocals is a terrible idea and deserves to die a painful death.

Another Toska one from me, again it’s more about the playing and technique and ability in this genre and TBH all the shouty singers put me riiiiight owf..

A live version, cut in the studio..

(and he has his own YouTube channel for gear heads and stuff.. if you are interested)

    Crank another Rabea..

Dunno what happened there. It’s Isa by Enslaved. Isa/Eva, yeah, you can see what I did there. Shame you can’t see the bloody link properly.

Dear Lordy… Municipal Waste? Is that their best? 🥺 And Babymetal are generic? Hmmmm, actually, some of their other stuff is quite good. OTOH, Lady Baby seemed more like a tourist board ad 😳

But then again, my formative years were spent going to see rock/metal bands during the mid/late 70’s, when each pretty much had their own sound and feel.

Metal now seems… errr…. dare I say, all a bit samey and generic.

It’s pretty difficult to promote non-samey and non-generic new music, not only in metal.

MW are awesome. Nuff said \m/ \m/

Babymetal: Yes, the music is generic, metal-by-numbers. It’s not particularly interesting or original. The vocals are stuck on top in an attempt to produce something “new” but it just comes across as a gimmick.

Got the latest Toska album on repeat at the moment, absolutely love it

Meshuggah live are a thing of eerie beauty, just need Byzantine to come to the UK
