Really missed Robs commentary (especially his listing of all the riders recent injuries 😉 and Bart’s input. Makes you realise how much good commentary adds to your enjoyment. Dull course sadly. I think Pidcock is amazing but a bit of me would prefer he doesn’t win Worlds next week unless he rides more MTB next year. It would be shame to have the rainbow jersey missing from so many races.

A lot of it looked like a CX course as it’s where the CX world champs were held 😂

Think it would have been a BMC two-stroke. Not sure if the fork still had the fancy electronics used on the full-sus.

And everyone thought the Commonwealth Course was dull…….

What’s the point of the partially buried barrels?

Well don TP – dominant ride.

    When’s the Women’s?

On that course I would suspect a CX bike would have been faster, be interesting for a back to back test with Pidcock riding each type of bike.

Anyone watching the Women’s race now?
I missed the Men’s yesterday other than highlights from social media – this course is chewing up badly in the rain, looks really tough.

Where are Evie Richards,Isla Short and Annie Last? Have I missed something?

Also missed the men’s race. Watching the women’s race IMO not one of the best courses it just looks like a grinding slog.

Outside the top 10 which is all they’re focussing on. Real shame about the camera work. I know F1 has contracts about how every car / team needs to get some airtime, not just focus on the leaders but that obviously hasn’t been translated over to MTB!

Given the amount of climbing, there must be some good descents hidden in it somewhere, they’re just not being shown. 🙁

Looks like they didn’t make a good tyre choice, those craggy hills unlikeable for many of them

I could be wrong but I think only Isla is riding?

What’s being shown of the course I’m surprised more riders ain’t riding a hardtail. I know all the FS riders would have lockout but does look more suited to a hardtail.

Is ferrand-prevot the only rider on a HT?

Suspect Evie R saving everything for worlds.
Isla Short back in 25 is only GB rider

Commentary just said Isla Short is in 25th position.

Well that was painful to watch.
That course was done once it got too wet – especially that sandy stuff.

A bit of an Oktoberfest themed joke I imagine.

Commentary and coverage on GCN, an indication of whats to come for next year maybe for World Cup XC coverage – Not impressed!

Was it the same commentator that was on BBC if so then no it doesn’t look good.

That’s Marty. Commentates on Women’s races and CX. He actually does know his stuff but IMO doesn’t deliver very well.

The BBC commentary was a bit more annoying. Kept insisting that putting a foot down/ walking was problem or mistake, appeared to be unaware of Lecomte’s recent form or indeed her less-recent results at senior level. All he appeared to have to go on was how competitors had done at world champs, Olympics, U23 etc., from which he concluded that P F-
P was obvoiusly going to boss it, whereas her form was a little surprising given recent results, as was Lecomtes apparent inability to keep up (though to be fair to her, we don’t know how it would have panned out absent F-P’s mechanical.

He did seem pretty clueless, as you mentioned greyspoke was it lap three he basically said Pauline Ferrand-Prévot had it in the bag as Loanna Lecomte was 16 seconds back? Anyone who’s watched the XC racing over the last couple of years would know that Lecomte is an exceptional rider and riding in the rain doesn’t bother her one bit and that a 16-second lead on lap 3 of a 7 lap race is nothing, as was proven with Prévot unfortunate mechanical issue.

All he kept mentioning about Jolanda Neff is that she is the current Olympic champion.

I understand it must be hard to commentate on a race especially if you are the only one commentating but it would help if they had a good understanding of the sport and its competitors.
