Rather than buying my wife presents for her 50th next year I want to give her presents she won’t forget.

    So far I’ve sorted out
    Husky sledging
I’m looking into a car track day as she’s a great driver
    A couple of weekends away.

But what else could you think of as a surprise gift
It must be in the UK
She’s scared of heights so no bungee jumping etc.

    Please keep it clean.

Track days are great, I had one when I was 16 (now 20, I know it’s only 4 years!) at Mercedez world in their at the time top of the range AMG and it’s my most memorable gift.

I have nothing else to add just a +1 for track days 😀

Perhaps a session in one of those gravity things where you float?

    Hot air balloon trip?

… and spend the whole time curled up in a ball at the bottom of the basket?

    Butchery course?
    4×4 driving?
    Skid pan?
    Beer tasting day?

What part of the country (or indeed, what country?)

Any particular reason you’re limiting it to the UK? And what time of year?

You could sign her up for a marathon or something, give her a copy of the registration with enough time to actually get ready for it…

Staying with the driving theme if you can book a better day than this then it must be pretty darn special, in fact I believe this is more or less the best event if it’s type, anywhere. I enjoyed a day with Palmer Sports a year or two back and to put it simply it was utterly superb; one day, four circuits, six cars and instructors who basically push you to drive as fast as you possibly can, then faster, and a little bit faster still…

    Other than the single seater you have an instructor with you in every car and it’s basically live tuition;

“faster, foot down, now keep this pace, hold it, hold it, now BREAK, BREAK, BREAK, break harder! into second, now floor it, 3rd, 4th, hold it, and BREAK HARD etc”. This, in very fast cars, all day. [insert expletive] unbelievable.

Not cheap though. Four figures, but memorable? Oh yes…

+1 on the palmer sport day. Not cheap but utterly memorable and none of this slowing you down business. They encourage you to completely rag the arse off every single car you drive. I loved it.

if she likes driving fast she will love it. You come away with a video from each car too. My favourites were the M3 and the Caterham seven. Such wonderful fun. My face was nearly splitting in two in a grin.

My dad bought my mum (in no particular order):

    – a weight lifting belt with happy birthday embossed on it. It was special so that she could help moving the 3×2 slabs around for his landscape business.
    – a clothes prop with a small brass plaque saying “Happy Birthday”

Those are only two in a long list, but both would be quite memorable.

    They’re going in the bank.

Glider flight – my missus is also scared of heights and loved it. Cheap as chips too.

For some reason M&S new underwear range has popped up in the adverts. It looks great. Get her some of that. I reckon I will.

    Errm, for my wife.

    Thanks all for your help.

We’re in the UK and can’t fly as we need to be within a few hours of the Mother in Law if anything happens.

Her birthday is in June, so around then would be great.

    Any more ideas?

    Cheers again

My wife has never forgotton the day’s tank driving I got her o the tattoo voucher which she took six months to find thee bottle to use.

Other ideas: Speedboat lessons? Take her back to somewhere that’s been special to the two of you in the past.
