I’ve just been diagnosed with a long “bucket handle” tear of my medial meniscus, i am being referred to an orthopaedic surgeon. Just wondering has any one else suffered one of these and what treatment did you undergo? More importantly after treatment how long was it before you could go out on you bike?

Yep, same thing a few years back. Because there is nothing else to repair/recover after the removal of the handle, I was back in action just a couple of days later – skiing at Glenshee. My knee looked a bit fat for a day or two but immediately felt much better.

The treatment for mine was very simple- general anaesthetic and a 10 minute operation via keyhole to remove the little torn piece. Completely drama-free. I hope yours repairs as well as mine.

Cheers for that – just got to wait until I get an appointment on the NHS
