Would you buy a woven tie? Say 2-3″ wide with straight edges, and in textured patterns like tweed etc.

It’d be niche and unique, and something unusual in otherwise boring business dress, but on the other hand it’d have to be straight rather than tie shaped.

What do you think?

I keep one sober tie in my sock drawer for funerals & court appearances.

Yes, I have a straight woven tie, to go with my tweed jacket/ cord waistcoat/trouser 3 piece outfit, for when a cravat isn’t appropriate.
I’m not taking the micky either 😯

Ans: Probably but that depends on price and design with max budget at £15.

Good idea but you just have to wait for the trend of wearing tie to be popular again. At the moment it’s mainly for office workers.

I do like ties, always have and am most often the only tie wearer in my building.

I re-startd wearing them a couple of years ago and love them. I have light and dark blue, red, pink and yellow. Can’t be worn in business context and more casually. The square bottom ones cause quite a few comments!! Very versatile as can be worn with nice crisp white shirt and with checks and patterns.

Mine are slightly thinner and lined around the collar. If you knot them there, then they tie well.

Well that’s a fairly large section of the population still.

I work in loads of different settings from banks to Whitehall and schools are the only places where ties are work on a day to day basis. So survey at the gates and try not to get arrested.

I’m thinking more about the people who like to do something a little different rather than boring Joe Office, I suppose.

Sorry to put a damper on it but… my dad went to the bottom of the garden on the day he retired and burnt all his ties. I think a fair few regard them as a symbol of repression like he did. I’m all for doing things differently and supporting craft/art products but…..

So… does that mean no-one wants to buy a tie? Or that people are forced to buy them?

If the latter, then it’s a win anyway 🙂

Woven ties? Been wearing them for years. In both long and bow variety. But then I’m an architect.
I’m currently doing the no tie thing because I work with a lot of engineers and grey suits, striped shirts and comedy ties make me want to die inside.
I do wear a tie at public inquiries though.

Weird, I work with engineers (even am one) and no one wears a tie from our lab assistants to CEO….

Mol, the tie then sits well and is easy to tie. You tie the knot where the lining ends. The lining essentially goes round the area that touches the shirt collar. I think it also stops the woven silk from catching.
