Occasionally, if rest days and childcare coincides. The hypocrisy grates though – she flies up the climbs leaving me far behind, but requires me to keep stopping and waiting for her on the downs 🙂

Yes we ride together too, not as often as we would maybe like to, but we’ve been around the UK a bit and done a few Summer Alps trips.

Portes du Soleil in summer is her favourite place in the world, with Meribel/3 Valleys a close second.

We ride at a similar pace so it works perfectly.

    I feel quite lucky 🙂

Thats a freaky video with the static helmet and all the activity below it!

Is your girlfriend the camera person or the one being followed?

Most mountain bikers are lucky to have a girlfriend at all so to have one who rides a bike with you is extra lucky!

Sounds like you are making him an offer!

to answer the question…no, she can’t stand riding. She can’t stand doing any form of exercise/activity I want to do really 🙁

Yeah, we ride together. Probably half of my riding at the moment. Do the alps most years. She loves Morzine too.

I thought that, until you end up with another 5 bikes to look after fix and tweak (and normally get to clean as well)
Not so bad if you about the same fitness/skill, but if you have to wait for them at top of the hill (not any more she normally beats me to the top at the mo)it’s the waiting at the bottom or half way down on descents (or not go as fast as you like) gets a bit boring and ruin the flow/ride a bit, I just like to ride, on my own, at my pace and don’t normally do “stops” till the end.

Even more of a pain is when they want to “session” something as they can’t do it/or like to do it better after a few goes still can’t do it, (or come off and hurt themselves) then get all upset! 👿 If I come to a section that I am not feeling it/in the zone or think is beyond my skills I get off and walk. no big deal! 😈

Saying all that I put my G/F up against most blokes in skills and fittness, she had a few podiums at mini DH and that’s on a hard tail!!

And yes I am a miserable git 😈

We used to ride together occasionally, before the kids but now she prefers running.

It’s a real shame because i’d like to be able to share with her something I enjoy so much. She won’t run with me, either, because she says she’s too slow.

    Maybe it’s just me 😯

My OH loves the idea, and enjoys a quick spin on blue trails, CYB or Glentress and the idea for a biking holiday she doesn’t mind. But lacks the commitment to really enjoy it. Struggles uphill and lacks the skill downhill, got her a proper bike and bike kit. Maybe a skills session might help her along.

My mrs has gone from roadie to mtb’er, she’s done pp de s, gorrick races, sani2c and keeps looking out for new challenges.

It’s great we get to spend time together and she doesn’t care what kit I buy as she’ll spend more on a bike than I ever will. Happy days.

Been together 18yrs, I’ve always mtb’d she used to walk then saw mtb as faster walking in countryside. Then she got bored watching or marshalling when I was racing, she now gets more podiums than me ! We ride together a lot but train separately and we both have others to ride with. No reason to hide any costs or purchases and 10yr wedding anniversary is biking in Europe, couldn’t get any better.

We have rode together since 1987. Girls came along and it then they got into it at an early age. I’m going to have 13 weeks off with a foot operation so shall miss every time the car is loaded up and they without me.

Yup! My gf is well into mtb’ing, so much so that she’s giving XC racing a go this year and is training so hard she’s beating me up the hills and keeping up going back down again!

Win win for me…regular riding buddy, forces me to keep fit (otherwise I get my head kicked in), more bikes to tinker with and lots of summer adventures!

Would be nice if she gave me a hand bike washing occasionally though…

    Guilty as charged.

Also deeply disappointed about the lack of double entendre

I usually ride with the GF but sometimes I do it solo

Mrs. Rickon rides, ride both days at the weekend. She does uplift at Inners, plus started to throw her down the Enduro trails too.

It’s excellent, as she gets the whole expensive thing – but also rubbish, as we both want to ride, so the dogs get a bum deal at times.

No way Pedro! I love my Mrs to bits but,
    A, she can’t ride a bike.
    B, I’m happy about that.
    C, So is she.
    D, she doesn’t like fishing either. 😀

We do a bit of walking together, watching telly together, eating together, sleeping together, talking together, holidaying together.
I ride with a long time riding pal & my son & his mates & that works for me & her.

I’d like to do more races this year but I get earache from the Mrs that she will miss a days riding.

Mine doesn’t ride, I’m happy with this, as is she. She owns a bike, we occasionally go for social rides together, in summer, involving a pub, but invariably it stresses me out anyway. Sometimes I guess it would be nice to have someone to ride with, but equally if I want to go and do a fast ride on my own I can, and no one’s offended!

I miss riding with Mrs W a lot. After firing out a couple of babies is quick succession the opportunities are not there currently.
The last time I rode with her was on Ed Oxley’s flow course when she was 3 months pregnant with our eldest, who’s now 3.
Her 5 Spot is ready and waiting in the shed for when the time comes.

Mountain biking is my wife’s main sport so no problem getting out. I’m faster on the uphills, she’s usually faster on the downhills. She’s away (biking) this weekend with her mates so I’ll head out on my own.

No problems with the expense: when I asked her how much her FS bike was, she replied “it’s the blue one”! 😛

As for getting frustrated, stressed out at your partner’s lack of interest/skill/ desire to hurl themselves down DH courses. Just chill.

I may be alone on this but I quite like the fact that my wife has no interest in cycling, its not that I don’t like doing things with her and the kids but I like having something that gets me away from the normal work/home/kids/DIY/commute routine.

We’ve just bought a tandem, the number of bikes she has is rapidly approaching the number I have & all this after I laughed when she fell off & bust her chin open on our first ride cycle together 😳

The Mrs and I have three bikes each, 2 of hers out-spec mine! I only win a round for having a slight better road bike 🙁

EDIT: Thanks to crashtestmonkey for reminding me that the missus actually has 4 bikes rather than three 🙁

I met my wife whilst guiding in Colorado. The rest, as they say is history. We have a garage full of bikes including a tandem and are off the Gran Canaria with the road bikes next week. I love being able to share great cycling times with her.

    This.

My masochistic other half loves a good climb then shrieks like a stereotypical girl and drags the brakes down anything decent worth riding….thankfully she’s fair weather only.
