  • Lucky escape after being knocked off bike by a gypsy and dragged along the track

This evening I was exploring some local tracks on my CX bike, was struggling along a broken concrete road when I came across a load of scrap cars by the track. Then I saw a couple of gypsy horses behind them, as a neared one of them (slowly, not like triathletes ;0) ) it stepped away, I saw a glint on the track and too late realised it was the horse’s chain! The chain rose up across the track just in front of me. It knocked me off then the horse started walking away dragging bike and the bike down the track! After a being dragged a few meters I managed to lift the chain over my head and scrambled to unhook the bike. I then collapsed in shock,

I’d lay there a few minutes barely conscious for a few minutes before the horses owner sauntered over, he briefly asked if I was ok, then he started eyeing up my bike, asking what it cost etc. Adrenalin kicked in again and I managed to get up and walk away with my bike, straightened it up and rode slowly home with only a few bruises and grazes.

On reflection, the bloke was probably harmless but I was so close to being strangled by that chain.

Sorry for the click bate headline,

If only you’d bought some lucky heather none of this would have happened.

So the horse was a gypsy?

I don’t know what the breed is called but the one only travellers or gypsies seem to have.

    It’s a piedbald horse ,  not that I’m a traveller or anything

Are you trying to suggest that the horse was a gypsy and because of that, it was trying to pinch your bike from right under you?

The gutter press called, they’re looking for a headline writer.

Cob conformation, often piebald or skewbaldfeathered heels

That’ll be a Gypsy Horse accoring to wikipedia (or a Gypsy Vanner to most horsey people)

    i was ill laughing.

and the bit with the dog snarling ‘ya ****’

Well that makes things difficult as i also thought you were nearly everyone on the internet and just really good at multi screening. I shall have to reconsider one of my assumptions.

    Not everyone.

Some of them are my Mom. She’s my best friend.

So Bez is Perchy’s mom persona, so much sense. This place gets more surreal by the day. I blame gypsy horses for dragging people off [topic].

    I thought I’d give it a try acdave2

I’m not sure it’s worked though as deflected from what was actually quite a serious situation being dragged by my head by a metal chain. Leaving horses chained up like that next to a ROW is not safe. The traveller / hermit / whatever he was, also took more interest in my bike than whether I was OK.

Then when I got home my wife was nagging me about riding alone ;0)

Anyway, glad to be the inspiration for some horsey puns

That’s why we all go biking with our mountain bikes.

    Adventure!

Wild dogs, horses and stuff like this.
