    Hi all,

Right, I’ve tried the search function, but this didn’t throw anything up. I’m looking for a soft shell winter jacket. I have a good Endura long sleeve base layer, and a Dakine Zypher and then an old hoodie in between. But I want something I can wear to keep me warm and get away with not wearing the rain jacket.

Budget is about £80, what do people recommend?

    Thanks

while its not bike specific I find its a good length and a reasonably close fit so is perfect for the bike.

I quite like the look of this I can call into CRC and try their jackets as I’m only 30 minutes away. Fit will be important, I’m 6 2″, long arms!

Some of the Montane stuff at CRC looks decent, I’ve got one in the post to me. There are a couple of comments in the reviews about Montane being slim fitting so you should be able to go up a size to get the length in the arms.

Similar boat to you – bought a half-price Gore Tool III last week from Royles. Not the slickest website but I got excellent service from a human after an address snafu and it still arrived in a couple of days. Can’t wait for it to get cold enough to try it out, seems to be a quality item.

Is pretty much spot on – I’m an L in everything else, ordered L and no regrets.

Fit is vital, you really need to try them on. Flappy body or short sleeves are a real PITA even if the fabric/construction is good.

Anyone tried one of the lighter weight Buffalo tops as a single layer for winter?

    e.g. http://www.buffalosystems.co.uk/Teclite_Cycle_Top.htm

I was wondering if it would still be too hot (the standard Buffalo definitely would be)

Yes, I have the Teclite shirt, not the cycle specific one. It rocks. But then I am a massive Buffalo fan, and still have and use my Belay Jacket I bought in 1996. I think during the proper full on freezing snow part of winter then I’ll be digging the DP shirt out for riding in.
