I love the ride and handling of my 456 but hopping back on it after a winter of riding a carbon-forked aluminium singlespeed has got me thinking that it’d be even more fun if it was lighter.

So, given that Wheels are already on the shopping list, I’m looking for a frame with similar handling but lighter (and no, I can’t afford a Ti 456 🙁 ).
My short list so far is:

    Maxlight XC>120
    Scandal

What else should I be looking at?

If you can stretch to 500ish you got lots of options pace, chameleon, cotic etc but if thats too much (like it was for me) then the xc120 is great, I got one and I love it. My inbred (same geom as scandal) is a really good bike too but more for normal riding than the hooning about/technical/jumpy stuff where the 120 excels. That said I ride my inbred more than the 120.

Overfork a scandal? Do Merlin still have the team tig sls on offer? Loads of XC frames would run the 5 size of forks out of the 4(5)6 bit..

Tweak mmmBop (you think I’m making this up don’t you).

Alloy, 140mm fork optimised, same geometry as the Ragley. 1.5in head tube for future proofing/big strong front end, 31.6mm post for gravity dropper compatability. About £275ish – couple of months.

Yea, I do think you are making it up, but isn’t that kind of your job?

    Thanks guys.

The Pace and Chameleon are a bit too spendy, I’m afraid.

    Yes. 🙂

I’d be using 130mm Revelations BTW

all the commencal hardtail frames are adjusted for long-travel forks.

    Or try
    Ebay

sell off the bits and I’m sure it will work out cheaply.

Disclaimer: I haven’t checked the frame weight, I just know it’s 853 and am guessing it’ll be lighter.

All the bikes mentioned sound ok and might ride realy well. But the 456 rides, well like a 456.Going to another frame might get you a lighter bike, but youd end up losing that 456 feel you seem to like so much.
Like them or not I can’t think of many bikes that replicate the handling and ride of a 456.

tooslow – Why don’t you wait and save for the frame you really want?

Be patient, besides once you have te cash free you might change your mind and buy a different frame.

Hmmm, thanks for all your help guys.

I think I’ll see how the lighter wheels and tyres pan out.

A few months, if only! Its been a “few months” already. Straight through the Tib & Fib and made a mess of my knee.

I’m going to keep the S-works FSR but maybe sell the Pace and treat myself to something new when i’m getting fitter (next winter:-( Might go 100mm travel instead and light.

If you are interested drop me a line.

    Cheers paul
