I don’t have a chassis build, I bought the whole bike but I’m just about to change a lot on it.

This weekend I will be drilling the rims, replacing the forks for carbon fatty’s, and a few other bits and bobs.

I can see a build up from a chassis being quite expensive.

This weekend I will be drilling the rims,

What rim tape are you using?
I’ve got the hole cutter sorted for mine but no rim tape yet.

I have a conventional hard tail to rob for bits what won’t fit?

I bought some white Surly rim tape. It’s 80mm so will have to trim it down on the edges a little to get it to fit.

A lot of people use Duct tape, you can get it in any colour, just pull off a piece that’s the same circumference as the rim and lay it down sticky side up, then get another and stick it down to that so you have stuck it sticky side to sticky side. Have been told it’s a bit of a faff but works well. I was going to get some orange off ebay but got the white instead.

Cool. I was thinking about doing the duct tape thing, I might have a look for some in one if the DIY places tomorrow.

Aw yea! Let’s keep this thread going. Very fatty curious after seeing Beerbiker’s at Twentyfour 12 last weekend. It’s a good looking bike, for a fatbike. I really don’t need one, but it would be a good project to keep me busy during the winter.

what are the forks please ?

I’d say those were carver carbon fat forks, nice but you may find the offset and axle to crown is a bit short for the on-one.

Axle to crown on them are pretty much the same as the OO forks.

Yeah, they are the Carver O’ Beast Carbon fork

    tazzymtb

yeh the axle to crown difference is only 5mm the offset difference is 10mm less, with with a 68 degree head angle of the on-one may well make it a bit more sluggish on the cornering and prone to tuck.

It’s always the chance you take when swapping forks. Will see how I get on with them.

No riding god just talking the truth.
Seems you think you don’t need any lower gearing.
Well you wouldn’t would you with your canal trips.
Please feel free to borrow my 1×10 Fatback and not push up the climbs round some Elan Valley routes though…
I’ll even let you keep the bike if you can clean all the climbs. 8)

dear lord Saturday drinking beer and now thoroughly engrossed…these fattys look wonderful twoniner very loverly

how did folk drill the holes?
what was the drill bit and so on?

Gearing seems to be a debate….what are people running for the hilly north of England …especially for those who do not live by canals?

what are the bikes like in the mud?

Hole saw for drilling* dutys and gear it how you’d gear any bike with heavy wheels on your local stuff. 😉

*As big as you dare that’ll fit between the spokes.

The 1/10 gearing is pretty good but living in the hilly north a lower gear would be nice
But can get up most of my local stuff with the stock gears,

No idea on mud performance as its been cracking and dry since mine arrived in march .

Ride characteristics for me are fun laugh a minute
great on the rocky stuff but 2 psi too hard can make a huge difference
I am currently running Tubeless and 8 psi which is a little too hard for the offroad stuff and a little too soft for the road but for me a good compromise .

The back tyre is wearing quite fast about half done in 500 miles of mixed riding .

makes a great trail centre bike except for the braking bumps at Gisburns Hully Gully

    Sorry SSS

    I should have said 1 x 10 is perfect for me and my riding. I don’t think I need 2 x 10.

North Welsh hills for me and Fatty tomorrow and 1×10 will be fine for me.

    Please accept my humble apologies…..
