I’ve done the PavingExpert thing, but doesn’t answer everything so thought I’d seek knowledge here…

Laying these overly-pretty, thin and probably impractical little things onto a full mortar bed:

..if I put bond bridge of some ready-made SBR stuff..

a) can I just use normal sand & cement rather than silver & white?

b) is  bond bridge actually necessary / has anyone laid similar?

c) am I going to end up with a sparkling patio from a porno set?

I have the same granite slabs for a seating area. They were just laid on a bed of river sand on top of compacted hard core with a cemented (normal) in edging grey granite stones.

They are thin but surprisingly strong. I only cracked one when levelling them off and years later with plenty of foot traffic and a very heavy table they’ve never cracked.

They do absorb water from the ground making them darker until they dry out which is pretty quick and resist moss build up pretty well. I was advised by the neighbour not to coat the granite or face lots of maintenance, as he does this on a daily basis for the local council I took his advise.

I also used the leftover to cover the existing concrete steps for the outside doors

That’s interesting, thanks – do you mean totally unbound sand with no cement mixed in? Or just on a dry mix?

I’m a bit of an expert at this product and would say the following:

put down a concrete base with steel mesh.  Then lay slabs on a full mortar base 3:1 ratio with 12mm gaps. Point with 3:1 mortar dyed grey.

Unfortunately the don’t stay silver but grey, although they vary in colour for no obvious reason.

Easyvto clean with pressure washer though.

‘ang on. You’re suggesting a solid concrete base with rebar?!

I respect your expertise, but could you explain why please?
