Anyone know the law regarding back bike racks ? e.g. how close to the top of the reg plate / lights can the bottom of the rack be ?

    many thanks.

AFAIK, you musn’t obscure either lights or reg plate. no minimum clearance required, but of course it depends on the angle of view…

All brake and signal lights must be visible. Obviously for accident waiting to happen reasons and of course you obscure your numberplate- thats a big no no.

Traffic officers would look at this very dimly if you passed them on the motorway with these obscured. If anyone posts ‘yeah but Ive been doing it for years’ – well bully for you!

You been pulled Si? I suspect you won’t find anything on angles anywhere.

The bigger risk in my mind is if you have an accident with someone, probably where they drive into the back of you, because they couldn’t see your lights at least some of the blame switches from them to you.
