Last year the STW massiv came up trumps with a bunkhouse in Snowdonia for me & my mates. We had an outstanding place to stay near to Snowdon which we conquered one early Sunday morning.

Anyway next year its a weekend away in the lake district & I’m hoping that STW can once again recommend somewhere to stay. We are looking for somewhere in the Lake district preferably where we can ride right from the door but we can drive if necessary, there will be between 10 – 15 of us so somewhere fairly big.

If you know of somewhere which will fit the bill & you can recommend the place that would be great.

sykeside is a campsite with some bunk rooms attached. We’ve stayed there and it’s reasonable, 2 bars on site both serving food and ale. You can cycle to glenridding and thence up Helvellyn or round to pooley bridge for the Ullswater singletrack, or cycle straight over the road for the push cycle up the High Street.

I’ve stayed at Denton House (Keswick) a few times. More of a hostel than a bunkhouse, so maybe not what you are looking for.

Groups can book bunkrooms for sole use. The facilities are basic, but fine – the big advantage is that you are in Keswick for pubs, shiny things and easy access to Skiddaw / Blencathra loops.

Have stayed here for a stag do before.
As far as I remember (not much TBH) it was fine.

At the bottom of the Watendlath to Rostwaite descent on the Borrowdale Bash, how’s that for riding from and to the door?!

Sykeside is fantastic we’ve stayed there a couple of times. Only downsides are: there’s tumble dryers but no actual drying room for soggy boots and you’ll have to lock your bikes up outside the bunkhouse or on your car like we do.

Don’t go to Dinah Hoggus if the wind is a westerly and there’s bad weather coming in. I’ve been snowed and rained on in the sleeping area as there is no roofing felt under the tiles.

Beer and whisky selection at Sykeside is great.
