I remember visiting years back, at the tail end of June when the kids were little. At the time, my daughter was still on the seat on the back of the bike and we’d just visited the large, wooden head on the East side of the reservoir. I was planning to make a rapid return to the trail due to getting eaten alive by the little buggers, when I heard a quiet voice from the back of the bike: “Daaad. I need a wee….”

It was a massacre. Bloody kids!

They’re a sub species their. They’ve evolved into the piranha of the bug world

It’s the worst place I’ve ever been for them

Yeah, I have personal experience. I was thinking of heading up for a big day ride, then realised I’d lost track of time and we could well be into bloodletting season. Just wondered if the dry Spring had slowed down their arrival this year. I have coping strategies in place but would rather not have to deploy them.

This sounds a lot more interesting than it probably is…

Stayed at Kielder in the lodges there and obviously took the bike. Was August time and Deet 100 made them sod off and eat someone else. Maybe in the time from my visit , they have evolved and blocked their nostrils from Deet ?
