Wookster Jr. Has his heart set on a Fat bike for his ( 8th) birthday in April, he’s big for his age, and can ride his brothers 26″ frog no problem he’s as big as a 10 year old pretty much. I’ve really tried to push him to a “normal wheeled bike” i.e. A frog as they are so much lighter than the previous bikes he’s had.

Does any one have any suggestions that aren’t a £800 Specialized? It has to last for a few years and realistically do I try to put him off the idea of a fat bike? I’ll say I don’t mind what he rides as long as he’s out and abut with the family I just don’t want to get him somthing that’s just not suitable as I won’t be able to replace it with another bike.

I think the general view on kids and fat bikes is they look cool but are rubbish, too heavy and not enough gains over normal bikes.

I though the On-One Piccolino @ £400 when I read the title but having a better read it would seem it’s will probably be to small or you won’t get much out of it.

Not much option for 24″ wheeled mini-fat out there.

The odd Plus option for something a bit lighter?

Probably smarter to get a small 26″ for longevity (Is there a budget 26+ out there yet?), but cool/fun factor with the mates I know which I would go with 😀

Mini Taz rides this and Loves it. DEcent aluminium frame, drilled 24″ rims that tubeless easily and give a 26″ outside wheel size,

got it from bike 24.de a couple of years ago and still going strong. upgrading the rubber to the 24×4.00 spesh ground control is great for big muddy rides

facial expression would indicate that he quite like it!

Go Outdoors do one, would probably be the right size for a bit and is cheap. My daughter had a sit on one just before christmas (she’s 7 but tall) and it was a bit big still.

Problem with the go outdoors one and a lot other kids fatties, is that they aren’t proper fat and use 2.5 trials tyres which are heavy and super sticky/draggy which will really spoil the kids enjoyment

Yeah the go outdoors one doesn’t tick the box for him I’m afraid, he didn’t like it when we saw it. Thanks for the help all, I’ll keep looking!
