I don’t think we’d be able to share the money if we just trade though. Could maybe do a boomtime wing delivery mission. All cargo on the T9 should do most of them in three or four trips – more if we can get someone else.

Or I don’t mind flying my Anaconda with its 380-odd tonnes and someone else can escort.

A couple of (perhaps dumb) questions about mining for LTDs at Borann

I’ve got the ship (AspX) and the kit. I can find and extract the bling. I’m transferring 32T at a time to me Cobra to sell somewhere at a decent price in case I need to fight for it as the Asp is too slow and is unarmed.

I wait before I start for any pirates to scan me and move on.

I still seem to be coming across other ships though. IN the last two hours, I’ve seen another miner laser mining in the far distance, a Search and Rescue Anaconda that constantly circled me for twenty minutes and a wing of two Asps that were circling round but left me alone. I don’t think they could see me because I was inside an exploded core and was too cold for their scanners. Can extended super cold periods damage the ship?

Twice though, I’ve been attacked by NPC pirates as soon as I left the ring, got away once because I had already started my FSD and jumped before my hull got to zero. Second time I got melted as soon as I started to run. Both times I had been AFK for a while (for a phone call and then dinner] and it had jumped me slightly out of the ring. Is this normal?

I thought it was a mostly solitary pursuit.

Bought a Python now but need to kit it out.

I found that pirates respawn if you leave the game and re-join, even if you’re still in the ring.

You have to do it all in one go to avoid pirates.

Happy to do something like that, I know various people have got some big ships.

I’ve got the final call with my client tomorrow afternoon wether or not the demo’s complete, so I will be putting the laptop down and playing a lot more ED over the next few days – and doing a lot more riding 🙂

I’m 12 jumps from Deciat! Got so excited when I started picking up degraded emissions again. Even scavenged some, predictably punted my first target because I forgot to power up my hatches to deploy my scoop.

Squirrelking always a sign of ‘civilisation’ returning, though I am surprised by how far out degraded signals go.

Take care back in the bubble, especially in Deciat.

Solo or open? I wouldn’t bother with that malarkey in solo. To that end, I’d just mine in the Cobra, think you can get 60 tons in one of them?

Both times I had been AFK for a while (for a phone call and then dinner] and it had jumped me slightly out of the ring.

What Molgrips said, I think it’s the AFK bit that’s causing the respawn, I’ve also had it climbing out of the ring and going back in to find a hotter spot. Do see a few craft bezzing around whilst mining, but as long as you’ve given them a chance to scan when you’re empty on arrival, they seem to leave you be.

Little PSA for PS4 users; I’ve found that you can have a second commander with whatever name you like; You just have to make a new user profile on your PS4 and go through the Frontier process again. You then have to make your account with your PS+ sub your ‘primary’ account on that machine in the settings, and it will share the PS+ sub with all user profiles.

Apologies if everyone else already knew this. I thought it was interesting though; I sense an evil Imperial alter ego in my future…

That’s a nice tip, I will do this to counter the FOMO when I’m out exploring. It seems whenever I get more than 1000Ly from the bubble, people do loads of cool stuff or find out loads of cool locations.

Still gonna struggle to join the filthy imperial dogs!

    Ha!

Did a couple of jumps and at around 8 to go got interdicted by some asshat NPC, still had priority to engines so submitted and spooled up whilst boosting, got away with one shield ring down. Stopped surveying at that point and just started a mad dash of scooping and jumping. Never got any more hassle and landed on Deciat with not a scratch on me. Sweaty palms though, nearly fluffed the landing as I didn’t realise my nose was down so far, landed it nose first!

Still got inside and saw my wee trip was worth 11m, nice. Wait, there are more pages? 46.7m later takes me to 51.3m in the bank and a buttload of first discoveries and maps, think I see an AspX on the horizon. Well chuffed with that.

That’s great, I was wondering whether you had made back safe. 46M is good, there must have been some good finds in there.

I have two Asp X, one a miner and one a bubble jumper, so don’t have a bad word for them. I prefer my Krait Phantom for exploring, such a nice ship to fly and room for everything.

Yeah I’m looking at my options, seems I can go superlight (and supercheap) with a DBX, go multirole with an AspX or spendy with the Krait.

I’m in no rush tbh, have some scavenging to do for the moment, will maybe just outfit my Cobra for fast material gathering and see where I go from there.

Managed to take out the pirate of death NPC last night.

He went bang just as his buddies finished me off so I had to eat another rebuy but I didn’t care.

I also got an achievement for 1,000 kills.

I quite enjoy fighting in the Krait II. I’ve gone all in and ditched everything not combat related. I used to always make space for a Guardian FSD booster, a cargo rack and a collector limpet controller but I swapped all this stuff for hull reinforcements and shield cell banks.

Great stuff. I’ve been looking at the Krait for a pure combat build.

Pretty sure I’m nowhere near 1000 kills, though I nearly have 1000 systems (985).

Surely there’s still room for a Little collector limpet controller? Otherwise collecting up all of those sweet high end materials is going to be a painful chore?

    richmtb

i only bother scooping up bits from the really high end ships, so Anacondas, Type 10s Kraits and Pythons

Scooping up the grade 4 and 5 materials isn’t too much of a chore with just the cargo scoop

Scooping mats in space is easy when you get used to it. I’m barely slower than with a limpet.

    Bloody pirates!

Just had my first experience of hatch breaking limpets.

Thats 15 hard earned diamonds I’ll never see again.

Do the NPC pirates keep their cargo?

    Mikkel

thats why i have point defences on my ships when mining 🙂

NPC pirates use the diamonds to feed their children!

Agree with Mikkel, run a point defence and you are safe(r). If you have choice select a utility mount on the bottom of the ship.

i dont know what it is with me and canopy being blow up all the time no matter what ship i am in.
Just happened again in the Mamba, just disengage and ran to station, but of course every single time this happens i get the classic “i am after what is in your cargo” and some daft little ship try and intercept me when my cargo is empty. my ship blew up just as my landing gear deployed and ship basically exploding into the pad lol

Did you know you could synthesise life support refills in the right hand panel, inventory tab? May be of use next time.

Mikkel other than the module reinforcement I don’t know what to suggest. Do you have a jousty type of fighting style? Perhpas too much head to head is the problem.

I just lost another type 9 to a pirate when doing a boom mission. I went back to the original station and could only buy the stuff I needed to deliver in the commodities market, not collect in the mission screen. I have the right amount in the hold, but it won’t let me deliver, am I going to have to bin the mission off?

    Matt

    Mikkel

Yea pretty sure that mission is a write off, remember the mission text about being unique to the mission…
I had it while doing 2 missions at once that was a big fine.

I’m lost. No idea. I think I want to refit my Cobra into a stealth smuggler, refit those bits and do some crime until I have the engineers unlocked to make ultra exploring worth it.

Fast and light, drop, scan, grab and bolt. Interdicted, boost, tata!

Looking at stats I can end up with something almost as fast as the top ships but more manouverable.

    matt_bl

Sounds like fun! Perchy told us that if you dock at 200 you don’t get scanned and so you can have anything in your hold. The no scan part definitely works.

200 hops into a 20kLyr passenger jaunt and I awake with a start to the ‘Your ship has been destroyed’ message. Don’t drink and fly, kids – it’s not big and it’s not clever… 🙁

Finally got to the Orion Nebula. Pretty skies. Hooped around a bit, found nothing except a handy planet of biologicals which were like termite mounts with plentiful rare metal deposits on the outside.

Went straight back towards the bubble via the Witch Head, which was rammed with non human signals, stopped off at the cluster of stations there.

Cashed in a out 17m of discoveries and about ten new discoveries. Not a single ELW though.

Is the galaxy different as you get far from the bubble?

i had heard you could synthesize the life support but could not find it.

just put a 2D module protection on + 4A life support now i have 20 min instead of 4 and i have found where to make the refills.

Back in the bubble if anyone wants wing or crew action.

For multi crew bear in mind you don’t have to be present in the same system to take a seat on someone’s ship, it works remotely which is rather appropriate currently.

    matt_bl

@Mikkel I was just going to post the location, as you’re a miner you should have loads of raw mats for synthesis. 20 mins though, I’ve had seek and return missions take less time than that!

the module thingy seems to work.
Just had the Mamba go to 28 percent hull with nothing breaking.

Fancied some action after being out in the cold for so long. Went to a RES, looked for targets, pressed the wrong button and shot a cop. Fortunately the Krait has enough speed to boost away, lost shields but no hull.

How do I clear my bounty though? Went to the nearest station and had nothing to clear at the authority contact. Don’t want to go back to the RES, I’ll get shot again.

How do I clear my bounty though?

I think you need an interstellar factor; you know, the guys who’ll cash any bounty but take a 25% cut.

Could also be that you need to wait for your ‘notoriety’ to fade.

    matt_bl
    Free Member

Yeah, the factors will only do it when you have no notoriety. Look for anarchy or low security systems.
