    Is it good, bad, ugly.

Do you use it and if you do, have you got stung on import taxes?

    Any/all anecdotes welcome.

I order 95% of my parts from them. My dad has a place in Chicago so everything gets sent there before being stuck in his suitcase/box and taken back here. The service is great and very American. Runs smooth and without issue. They have answered emails very quickly with lots of advice. As a company they are like CRC but with better CS (the american way).

    Cant comment on import tax/duties.

Sorry I did mean Jenson. Is there a way of finding out the tax and charges in advance?

Find a US Forces bloke you trust and have it shipped to his PO box.
They count as stateside addresses for them.
    That’s what I do anyway. 🙂

    Sure – contact HMR&C 😉

From memory there’s info on the interweb re various import duty / tarrifs (by category) but it goes something like this:

$cost of goods + $shipping + $shippers handling fees for presenting Customs docs / using their deferment account > convert via HMRC exchange rate to £ then £duty on top of all off the aforementioned (circa 20% iirc) then VAT on top of all of the aforemntioned incl the duty – i.e a further 20%

    Not so cheap now huh?

The chances of not getting stung, as you put it, on anything other than an envelope are pretty slim I’d say.

If you’ve got friends or family in the US who are prepared to stash gear in a bag and not declare it (per the example above) then you avoid (evade) all that. Warranty issues are the other factor – dont expect any support from the UK importers if your purchase fails.

that import tax rate is for whole bikes; parts are about a quarter of that I think
    (still mounts up though)

I’ve bought forks from Jenson and got his by tax and vat but so long as you do the maths and make sure it is a bargain go for it.
