If you buy some music from iToons, save it on your hard drive which your dog soon pees on, can you download it again from iToons for free? ie, is it stored on your iToons account that you ‘own’ that music and have access to it for life?

Not.. although since they offered DRM-free tracks you can upgrade to those for a small sum. It knows what was on your account, you pay, you download them again but DRM-free this time.
