I’m looking for advice from the STW mindhive. We’ve booked 10 days in Italy during the summer, typically we would drive but this time we’re flying and hiring a car.

What are peoples experiences with the additional damage insurances?

Are there any good third party warranties worth the paper they’re written on?

Having spent 5 weeks in Italy last year, definitely get the insurance. The driving standards are abysmal. Narrowly missed death several times over the new year holidays. They are absolute lunatics on the road

I think they are generally OK. We use one called insurance4carhire I think. Sounds a bit dodgy but had good reviews. Never actually claimed. Worth getting, especially for Italy. It seems a lot of horror stories come from Italian car hire places. We’ve not had issues with damage but did get a couple of spurious fines and admin charges. Eventually got them cancelled by the credit card company but was a faff
