Or just a bloke on an exercise bike? Let’s get the lawyers in!

It wasn’t a good idea when Specialized went after people for using the word Roubaix, and this is an equally not good idea!

Good luck to them trying to do this with ASO

    And perhaps peloton magazine.

I suspect that one peloton might have bought the name from a magic beans salesman .

Got to feel for gplama at the mo, just wants to create content, had his channel binned off last month for some Youtube violation, although reinstated, and now this

love the suggestion in the cease and desist letter that “peloton” is word of renown because of the companies efforts and products 😀

Is this the same company that is currently running that incredibly annoying ad on TV?

Sorry, I just don’t get it.

Obviously @onepeloton don’t own exclusive rights to the word peloton, but clearly have registered it’s use relating to certain buisness activities. It looks to me a complete layman, that Shane Miller’s use of the word in his buisness could be in conflict. Definitely one for the lawyers to decide.

They would do better getting gpllama on board. There’s a huge marketing effort in the US for these static bikes with expensive shops on shopping malls. My manager has bought one. I don’t know whether she uses it much. They look nicely made, but probably no better than a Wattbike Atom. Frankly a KICKR and Zwift subscription offers a lot more fun as far as I can see. That or a used spinning bike.

It didn’t end well for Specialized (I have the T shirt!). It won’t end well for Peloton either. Pick a common word used in everyday use and you will suffer the consequences. Trademark or not.

The lassie in the ad is particularly fit however…

As for the letter..I’d file it in the bin.

Sorry, I just don’t get it.

Some people like being shouted at.

Does look terribly crap compared to Zwift but it’s a different market.

They’ve made a very poor choice of name – it’s fine to pick a word and trademark it and effectively say that nobody else can use that name for the same kind of thing (like Apple I guess), but it’s stupid to think you can commandeer all use of an existing word in the realm in which it’s most irrelevant.

If you call yourself Apple Computers then it’s fine to say “No, you can’t call another company ‘Apple PCs’ or a news show ‘The Apple Computer News Show'”, but if you were a fruit seller then you simply couldn’t say “Sorry, we’ve trademarked ‘Apple’ so you can’t have a magazine called ‘Apples Weekly'”. This is a bit like that, presumably some people just don’t get that ‘peloton’ is a well established and well known term within all of cycling, and to most people it has nothing to do with riding a spinbike in your front room!

I think the cycling world in general should issue legal proceedings for incorrect use of the word Peloton for a company promoting a solo “bike ride” inside your own house.

    That should clear things up.

Ah, looks like Shane has opted to go to rebrand to ‘The Digital Panettone’ instead.  Probably a sensible move as lawyerland is usually somewhere where the biggest cheque book wins.  Although it would be nice to imagine that it will hurt ‘Peleton Digital’ in the end it’s difficult to know.  I would doubt that they would get any favourable traffic from gplama or dcrainmaker any more but this story will die in nanoseconds – it’s the way of the web 🙁
