    just wondering if there is some kind of system, as it appears they have taken the terms “stealth, EVO, X2, M4, tech and race” and jumbled them all up to form a wide and impenetrable range of random permutations.

    thanks

    Stealth is black, numbers refer to how many pistons in the caliper, race is the lightweight version without all the pointless doodahs, and evo is the later version of whatever brake you’re looking at.

    thanks.

    And ‘Tech’ is just a ‘non-Race’, or just a word they’ve added for coolness?

    And what is Tech 3 then?

    Tech 3 is new.
    Tech is the new Standard (replaced the original ones)
    Race are lighter versions of the Tech in the same model

    Loads of great info on the Hope Site

    Tech and race refer to the lever. Tech has all the adjustors and everything. Race is a lighter version where you need allen keys to adjust stuff.

    X -> E -> M -> V are the callipers, on a sliding scale of XC -> Downhill.

    The number after the letter refers to the number of pistons, 2 on the more regular brakes, 4 for more downhill biased riding.

    Evo means it’s the newest model with an updated lever and cam.

    Stealth means everything is black. Otherwise you can buy the regular ones in a cornucopia of anodised colourways.

    Always thought the same as the OP, and even tho you guys have explained it well, it’s still ridiculous to the point of being put-off buying their brakes.

    thanks. I’m getting it now.

    But just to throw a small ring spanner in there… do you need a certain lever with a certain caliper? Or are they interchangeable?

    You can use the newer better tech evo lever with a tech brake and the new tech 3 levers are also going to be backwards compatible I believe.

    The tech callipers are there same on both the regular tech brakes and the evo however the new tech 3 caliper is going to be slightly different.
