  • Is there a hardtail with a 1.5inch headtube?

Due to a stupid accident I've wrecked my Trek Remedy, the insurance have no intention of paying out and I'm looking for the cheapest way to get the bike back up and running.

I have all the parts just need a frame, only issue is the forks are a tapered steerer tube 1.5 to 1 1/8.

Are there any hardtails out there with a 1.5inch headtube diameter?

    Any thoughts.

    Cheers

Sell the forks and get a new set with a frame? Might be easier, and would certainly give you more options. Or, maybe you could swab the upper legs/steerer tube for a 1 1/8" version?

Swapping the steerer tube seems like a good idea, than I have my pick of frames which would be great. Mmm wonder how much that will cost. Phone calls to make

Is the mmmbop tough as old boots? I weigh in at 110kg in riding gear and like to go fast and hit jumps as much as poss. Is the bike up for it?

Have you asked Trek if they do a crash replacement discount?

For some reason I had it in my mind that they do, but I may be wrong.

    WHat happened anyway?

Yes but that Ragley has a 1.5/1.5" head tube; the OP has a tapered HT; 1.5/1 1/8". So he'd need two headsets to make it work.

Aside from the fact that the Remedy is a FS frame as well.

    It's what he asked for.

Or one of these type of things for a headset:

    He'd need one of these…

Can be used as a 1.5 headset by removing a wedge.

Thought someone did a tapered fork, straight headtube set? Oh and the OP probably knows his bike was FS, and he also probably knows that he asked

EDIT-Blimey, my fingers must be slow today!

    Here's the back story

Trek do a crash replacement policy but for a Trek Remedy frame under the warranty it's £840 which right now isn't doable.

Have got over the fact that I can't afford a full-sus frame for now so just want to get a bike up and running again.

drunkenmonkey should have asked if there are any hardtails with tapered headtubes that are as tough as old boots.

but hindsight is a rare gift.

    tapered headset clicky

SOOBalias I'm increasingly finding that to be the case 😀 🙄

FSA headset looks sweet! Certainly solves the problem

EDIT: OP actually seeks tree avoiding hardtail with tapered headtube and old boot toughness.

SOOBalais – do they make one of those? 😆

Of course what I meant was that he'd need to buy another headset etc..

    Oh it's just too confuddling… 🙁

Or put the fox floats with a different frame? There's a fair bit of life in them yet…

Just spoken to some very nice blokes at The Bike Chain in Edinburgh, the joys of the internet, and have placed an order for a Ragley Mmmbop 18inch Blue. Should be here by Thursday, excellent service.

Thanks for all your help and advice guys/gals. Here's hoping the Mmmbop is a tree avoiding hardtail with tapered headtube and old boot toughness.

    Cheers

    Hiya

You will be needing a reducer top cup as mentioned on le telephonica thingy.

Normal 1.5 down below and 1.5>1 1/8 reducer up top.

    Make sense?
