Received an email this morning supposedly from Halifax, announcing that thanks to too many login attempts, access to my account was temporarily locked and asking me to click on a link to begin the reopening process. Naturally this went straight in the garbage and a login from the regular Halifax home page showed that it is all working fine.

OK so it’s a phishing attempt but the worrying thing is that about 3 days ago I forgot my password and tried to log in about four or five times before giving up. How do the phishers know I bank with Halifax and how do they know I made several failed attempts?

If I send 1,000,000 emails one of them will be right. It probably got through your spam filters as you do bank with Halifax. Is your AV up to date, installed all updates for your OS and updated your passwords?
