    ditched CB pedals.

My first failure in about a decade of owning them and never servicing them.
I’m not too worried about the reliability. 😀

The look like at least 5/6 years old there 🙂 Nice I had to ditch my ones as the spring was binding and catching 🙂

Service and they will be good as new.

I believe Shimano have added this feature to their new XTR pedals this year

Nah, just wrap loads of duct tape around your shoe and the pedal spindle.

Aye, that’ll waterproof it too 😆

Same thing happened my old mallets – sent them back and CB did them under warranty – got a letter back from them too, in a stern, headmasterly tone, telling me that they’d failed due to a “complete and utter lack of maintenance”, which was true, I guess.

Is there any other kind? Life is too short to spend it fettling pedals 😀

So quick question, is this salvageable if I buy a crank bros mallet rebuild kit or do the new mallets differ too much from the originals for the kit to work properly?

Thought you didn’t fettle pedals ?
    😀

I guess you’d have to check the ID’s of all the bearing housings, spindle lengths, etc. Unless its a given that, dimensionally, the pedals are identical.

    EDIT:
Won’t C/B tell if the kit is compatible ?

current new ones are different, the older gen I think are the same – the importer is still sending out the older kits by mistake here in Oz….

There is a tool/knack to replacing the inner bearing which is why the new ones split into 2 parts. Give 2pure a call and see what they can do for you – not heard a bad thing about them.

UPDATE: I emailed 2pure as suggested (thanks mike).

They got back to me straight away and were very helpful. That vintage of Mallet is way too old for the current official Crank Brothers rebuild kits, but they kindly put one together for me from their spares bin and sent it straight out.

Top marks for customer service! 😀
