Not wanting to make this a gender issue, just a celebration of Women in the medium of Song..

Sade is, and forever will be my ultimate Female singer.. no question.

    Loving this at the moment..

And my favouritest ever female vocalist, the beautiful Amy…

Still makes me sad thinking what a tragedy her death so young was

How can you write something so achingly beautiful about drowning at sea? Its just gorgeous…

I can’t fault most of the above choices (Dusty Springfield and Nina Simone especially), but would like to add Skin from Skunk Anansie to the list.

I recently found a CD copy of Paranoid & Sunburnt and am still amazed at the energy and range of her voice.

If we’re on R & B goddesses with unbelievable voices, it’s got to be Mary J Blige..

Not a singer per se, but my favourite of the moment is Mohini Dey. A young female bassist from Mumbai. She. Is. Awesome!

Great to see Janis get a mention, here she is at Woodstock performing “Try”

The one and only Beth Hart with Joe Bonamassa :

Way back to 1965 for Big Mama Thornton, see if you can spot Buddy Guy and John Lee Hooker:

The classic “Rock me”, again with Big Mama Thornton. Some superbly sizzling sax playing too.
