After having a play on an ebike in Scotland, although fantastic, I’d quite like to avoid spending 4 grand on a big monster full susser one. Has anyone made any interesting conversions?

I was thinking something simple, with a fairly isolated bottom bracket, like an old Meta, Heckler, Five or Patriot, with a Bafang/Tongsheng bottom bracket jobby? How do these compare these days to the proper units? I take it the way the power kicks in/out is a bit sharp?

I’ve got a Swift I’d have a play with, but I think the eccentric bottom bracket would be too wide for the mid drive units?

I have a middrive kit sunstar which is no longer made but has proper torque sensing. In use it rides almost as well as a bosch.   It’s a bit noisier and the wide Q factor is noticeable power delivery is as good

Proper torque sensing is key to how well a conversion rides imo

Cheers, what frame did you mount it too?
