    You bet right on the wind but “wetter” is debateable, Jambo. Pau has about 1100mm of rainfall and Plymouth less than 1000mm so Pau has more rainfall. It has less wet days though.

    We have bought a granite ‘barn’ (ex cowshed) in west Cornwall and are in the process of trying to sort it out. On the basis that it is impossible to stop all moisture getting in we have started by making it as difficult as possible for it to get in & as easy as possible for it to get out. This has involved repointing in lime which is then painted with Beeks BS+ – a clear vapour-permeable coating ($$$/l!) & replacing the windows/doors & window cills. It appears to have made a big difference to the damp. When funds allow a MVHR system & internal insulation (woodwool) together with lime internal plaster are planned – it may be a while……

    But we’re talking about heating in Winter.

    Maybe in Pau, but this summer in Scotland we’ve needed the heating/fire on for more than a few days – plus we’ve an AGA on all the time…

    Without the AGA we’d need central heating.
