Last couple of years I had a bottle of Bullfrog SPF30 and it was great! No awful smell, not greasy and worked as a sunscreen on warm days.

Looked at buying more, but I can’t seem to get it anywhere now. Amazon have another version, but it’s £60 a bottle!

Is there any decent alternatives in the UK with repellent/sunscreen?

Avon Skin so soft for the insect repellent but no spf so you’d need to double up with something like Riemann P20

Smidge works well as a repellent. I put it on after the sun cream has soaked in

Sun cream and then Smidge is the way to go.

I actually contacted the Smidge folks about a SPF version but they reckoned that the application frequency/efficacy of the two products was so different that a combined product wouldn’t work.

Soltan does combined repellent / sun screen if that’s what you’re after. No idea if it’s any good, but it’s not massively expensive:

And that Soltan doesn’t contain Picaridin so I have doubts over its usefulness

Smidge – it just works. I like to use different strengths of sunscreen for different bits and at different times – my nose needs total sunblock!

OK I guess I’ll go separate and get some Smidge and P20 this year as it looks quite popular.

It “sort of” works but only as a barrier – and if you apply enough off it to drown the little bastards. On a bad day in the likes of Kintail you’d be scraping a layer of dead midge off you.

Bit random but i use Cooper and Gracie flee and tick spray for my dog – I spray it on him rub it in then wipe whats left on my hands on me.
Good demo tonight when he was paddling in in a sunny river – it was literally like an anti midgie forcefield was keeping them away from him. I didnt get bothered either.
Used for two years now after he kept getting ticks. Non since.

Yet another vote for Smidge and I am a midge magnet, my family use me as the repellent as every bugger bites me! Bring forth smidge and save me.

Another smidge fan who’s a mega midge magnet.

Anything for horse flies/clegs though? They kill me and I come up in massive lumps. I have bite cream for afterwards, but it’d be good to stop them biting, and they bite though summer clothes too not just exposed skin

I have been using Tesco Insect Repellent Spray for the last few years with good results, only £4 a can and as spray based doesnt get on my hands, have found the cans to be quite long lasting too.
