    …who would it be?

    Jon Hopkins for me.

His music covers so many bases, from soothing ambience to his mellow, folky collaborations with King Creosote, to uplifting electronica and deep beats. The only thing missing from his repertoire is sing-along pop songs, but if I can stretch this hypothetical question to his production I get to throw a bit of Coldplay in the mix for the sing songs 🙂

Edit : But surely this is some sort of hell, even of you like the artist you sure as **** won’t within a week or two.

Good call for Jon Hopkins, I’m trying to think of anyone else with such an extensive oeuvre, possibly Nils Frahm or Andrew Weatherall.

    often thought this

think it would need to be someone I like (of course) and an artist that has done a range of tempo songs to suit different moods

    so id say

Billy Joel – have every album he has done
Springsteen – a huge amount to choose from
Queen – rockier stuff through to slow stuff would suit me

I would even go so far as to choose Bon Jovi – from ballads to rock and everywhere in between

Good shout, but i’d argue you’re cheating if you include all his projects

How is “the Beatles” an artist? It’s three (and a drummer).

…might get you from Monday to chilling on Sunday, depending on what else you were up to. But I mean, I quite like Bobby Dylan and he’s done a lot of stuff but would you only want to hear his voice?

I disagree. He is one musical artist. My answer satisfies the question, guv.

It’s a bit of a tricky question to answer if you aren’t aloud to ignore changing bands and band mates. And the OP references collaborations of his chosen artist so I’m well in the clear 😉

I could listen to Lateralus for ever and not get bored.

Off topic but have you read his biography? I can’t decide if it’s some kind of eloborate joke.

Not yet. I’m waiting to see what Santa leaves me. But yes, I can well imagine it isn’t your usual biography and perhaps shouldn’t be taken literally!
