they do lose far more convincingly, when the occasion demands it – none of this conceeding a last minute equaliser rubbish.

Made the decision some time ago never again to sing the English/British national anthem whilst it remains God Save the King/Queen. I don’t see how spouting some rubbish that I passionately don’t believe in would make me any more of a patriot or any more proud in that situation.

I think more people in the public eye showing their displeasure might force a change – but then again I wasn’t expecting such overwhelming support for the royal wedding so what do I know about the national mood on such things.

I think Mr Rooney is making a very subtle political protest at the foisting of British anthems on stout English Yeoman…thereby corrupting them with celtic wossname or something.

I propose that they sing an appropriate song depending on who they are playing against. Cunningly, this will unnerve the opposition.

For example: Germany = “Dad’s Army theme”
