Went in January, it was dark! I had been before 6-7 years ago in summer time where I saw more of the island.
As expected the large group tour included in the package wasn’t much cop, went snorkelling in a freshwater lake which had a lit Xmas tree in.
Did the “golden circle” tour but we had a private guide for this, did a lot of extras you wouldn’t see or do on a normal tour.
The Blue Lagoon is well done, had an enjoyable day there too.
The people and environment is nice but not sure I would want to live there.Posted 4 years agotoby1Member
It is a great place, agreed, not sure about the industry either. although if you stay a night near the airport you’ll see that it is a pretty industrial town Keflavik – please note, I wouldn’t recommend this. Our flight plans changed and ended up being here for longer than intended, not the best part of the island to visit.
I spent the evening in Kafinbarinn (Damon Albarn’s bar) there was a farmer in for a night out in the city dishing out coke from his bank card, so perhaps not all forms of money making are traditional and quaint.
It’s not cheap, but neither is Cambridge so it felt a lot like being at home and going out every night cost wise.
SAD cars I used these guys for car hire and they actually were pretty cheap, not the flashest looking cars, but also not fussy about them either.Posted 4 years agospandex_bobSubscriber
Tough riding with lots of headwind and relatively sparse opportunities to re-stock with food. Kjoller route (D35?) through interior was good, as was north coast (riding the tunnels was a bit hairy) and and NW fjordland.Posted 4 years ago
