    Too upsetting to listen to.

This. I actually have to turn it off.

Rob’ll get sucked in when he can’t trust Helen on her own with the shrink so goes in too only to get sussed by said shrink. Hoisted by his own whatchamacallit.

I’m glad to see this issue being covered so well. Unsettling, but necessarily so.

That. Not switched back on after hearing Rob about to ‘rape’ her earlier this week – can’t decide whether it’s an issue being done really well, or just cheaply milking a character to be maximum evil in every possible way.

I’ll be glad when we’re back to milk yields and Brian Aldridge’s rapidly shrinking wine cellar.

    It is very unsettling stuff.

Made the mistake of tuning in tonight. I feel like writing a strongly worded letter to points of view!

    Chilling stuff tonight. Poor Henry.

Surely it has to come to an end soon.

I don’t know what was scarier; his controlling behaviour or her justifications earlier in the episode – “things are much better”

Its a horrible storyline, but really gets across how powerless people in that situation must feel.

There was an interesting interview with a listener on Woman’s Hour today whose sister had gone through a very similar experience to Helen. She reckoned that they had it pretty much spot on, including the way the other characters are behaving (e.g. Helen’s mum being unable to see what’s happening). Listen here if you like: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03pm4fr

Oh it’s so horrible I can barely bare to listen! He’s raped her! He’s hit her! He controls her! He turns people against her! It makes me scream at the radio! I also agree with the above that it is an important storyline: these are all too common situations for people to be in, and highlighting them is important.

Another good article on Woman’s Hour from the 29th:
Interview with the editor and the actress who plays Helen.
    Linky.
    It’s very good.

Working Sundays, so I’ve just caught up with the last two weeks.
    It’s horrible isn’t it?
    A very difficult listen indeed.

    Not heard this week’s yet.
He’s going to get her sectioned, isn’t he?

As has been said, this fiction is a fair reflection of what women are going through.

Someone’s started a justgiving page to raise funds for Refuge.

Bit cheesy but if you’ve been affected by this story maybe think about making a gift?

    https://www.justgiving.com/helentitchener/

Because Kirsty can’t do this on her own, people. If over the last year or two you’ve sworn at the radio, tweeted in outrage, taken the name ‘Robert’ in vain, or posted your disgust at the worsening situation in Blossom Hill Cottage, then now’s your chance to do something constructive about it.

A fiver could get Helen (and Henry) a taxi round to the safety of her mum’s farm (she’s not ‘allowed’ to drive). A tenner could get her that maternity top (he made her send back). Just a crisp twenty could order a seasonal starter at Grey Gables and perhaps a quiet, conciliatory word with its head chef.

Time to do something constructive and think of all the women who are genuinely stuck in relationships like this – and much, much worse. So, joking apart, all the money from the Rescue Fund will go to the brilliant Refuge, helping all those women who don’t have a mate like Kirsty and their own organic cheese shop waiting for them at the end of it.

Whoa has it escalated ????? Last I heard was her saying I am having the baby in Hospital, the end line was him saying “I am not a monster” yes you bloody are I said out loud.

What has he done to Henry????

Looks like she is going to contact his ex-wife.

The truth about the paternity test will be coming out as well.

It’s got to come to a head soon.

    He is. At the moment.

I don’t believe it was done correctly. Somehow his DNA wasn’t tested.

This is ROB. No way is not the father of the other child.

    But how…..?
    Oh God, I’m confused now.
Can’t remember THAT much of the Jess stuff tbh, especially how it ended.
    Dodgy phone call wasn’t it?

    And how involved IS Ursula?

What with this, the arson and Alf, I can barely cope.

East European farm worker went missing.
Some dodgy behavior during the flood.
    Punching the hunt protester.
Trying to send Henry to boarding to school.
    Rape.
    Cruel punishment of Henry.

    The list goes on.

As has been said, this fiction is a fair reflection of what women people are going through.

You’re as bad as the rest of them if you think this is a gender problem and only confined to women. The evidence is growing that men also experience similar levels of domestic abuse, both physical and emotional and is massively more under reported and in about the same place as we were 40 years ago in terms of how seriously society and the police take it.

    What arson?

The chicken house, built by Bert, for the Fairbrother brothers – mysteriously destroyed by fire, about a week ago.

The chickens weren’t in it at the time, they’re now living happily in the caravan.

Fraught. He had it coming, but I suspect Helen isn’t out of the woods. She’ll have to prove the provocation/self defence angle. Hope she can do so. She was protecting herself, not to mention Henry.
