Wow. That’s a thing that is. Has it come up for sale before? That eBay seller rings a bell.
4 days to go and no bids. I’ll be awatching that! Great find 🙂

His track bike did sell for a huge amount 🙁 neither did the JMC helmet (which I forgot to bid on). I’ll be having a go at this though.

from the blurb on the ad

PS I have seen Dirt once. I saw it at the World’s end-of-race party in Germany in 1995. Pete Tomkins brought a preview version to the World’s and scores of us watched it in some German bar.

    Mostly in tears.

Jason’s Mum has never watched it.

MTB hall of fame (or somebody) should buy it to keep it safe

It might give me fraction of the coolness jmc had.

So, if you got it.. would you ride it? Just the once?

I’m still chuffed to have been able to send Mr Crud a DVD copy of “Dirt” 🙂

Hell yeah I would ride it, how could you not.

    Plans for night;
    Win Lottery
    Buy JMC’s bike
    Ride it all summer
    Donate it to a museum

That’s the bike that started the hardcore hardtail movement right there.

Without that bike and JMC sat upon it I’m damn sure we’ll still all be riding skinny Marins with 52 tooth chainrings and shaving our legs.

That bike is a legend almost as big as the man himself.

If I had it, I’d ride it like a lunatic.

    +1

Me and all my mates slammed our seats and brought pairs of Azonic bars pretty much straight after watching Dirt

I know its only a bike but its not only a bike! That is genuine MTB heritage. Please, whoever buys it, look after it or I will find you and I will hurt you!

Why would you not ride it??
Out little, young sport has few genuine icons. JMC and this bike are where a huge amount of UK MTB ‘culture’ came from.
Shame it can’t be bought by me. 🙁

jmc was one of the inspirations that started me riding and wishing i had even half of his ability. if only i had the money i’d be bidding on this instead of getting the carbon full sus thats in the future plans. and i’d sure as hell ride it as hard as i could.

i hope also that whoever buys it,will ride it.

it’s a sad thought to imagine it not being ridden (or like jimi hendrix’s guitars, not played) 🙁

Now, let me just clarify. I ride all my bikes and manage to look after them! Both are possible on the same pair of wheels.

They don’t, all the money goes to kids charities.

Over a grand already! No way I could afford it now, but I’m glad they’ll get good money for it.

I wouldn’t ride it. I think it needs to stay as it is so it will never get lost in time (or broken up or whatever). Whoever buys it should always remember that it’ll never really be their own bike. It will always be Jason’s. ;O)

One last thing.. has there ever been a ‘cooler’ mtber since Jason? It’s been quite a while since his death but I can’t think of any. A few names and faces crop up but nobody fits the bill.

Cant afford the bike, but still have the dusty VHS here at home! A good video!

    Bid, got outbid.

But I’m chuffed its going for good money.

I’m in the buy it, ride it a few times and stick it in a museum camp.

Dirt was a big influence on my early riding and it’s amazing that this bike is still in existence!

On One should buy it to replace the Saville bikes.

This is like buying a superbike that Rossi won the world champ on, or a car that Schumacher and Vettle won the world champ in, i want it but my wife WOULD leave me ? This one would hang in the man cave and only come out for crazy rides on sunny days messing around trying to cool – Choc dee (Thai) to who ever gets to look after it ?

Specialized should buy it for their museum. I’ve posted a link on their Facebook page.

Specialized have a museum? In that case **** yes they should buy it and put it in there, beside that space they’re saving for Sam Hill’s mummified corpse.
