    MDMA

My first ever festival… In my 40’s, my first try of MDMA too in addition to lots and lots of beer.

I spent a huge amount of time learning how to hoola hoop to the point that a friend had to come and drag me away.

Later that night I finally made it back to my tent. Almost. I was half in the tent half out, just crashed on the threshold basically, wearing a onesie that to this day I don’t know how I got hold of.

The next day I got into some very competitive glitter wrestling. That night I ended up in the caravan of a lady working at the festival that was heavily into bondage. It was on display all over the caravan and she was overly happy to chat about it all. Thank God she fell asleep before she got a chance to demonstrate. Dodged a bullet there.

Nope, soz WCA, but after the first couple, actively avoided.

Not seeing much to disagree with in Rusty Spanners list, (although there’s a few, in my sensible life I’ve never experienced)

The smell of a Douglas Fir pine forest in the height of summer heat as the resin bubbles pop and fill the air with the scent of heavenly terpenes all around.  There’s a massive Douglas Fir in my local woods (bar hill, kirkcudbright) that was my preferred spot to sit against and brew up a coffee when out on trail building/maintenance sessions as red squirrels bobbed about everywhere eating the trail mix I threw for them, truly magical little place that I had just for myself.

The resin is also very effective for cuts, gashes as it’s antiseptic, anti microbial and very effective on bruises and sprains. It does nip a fair bit when applied to a cut/wound so be prepared to scream like a banshee.

Never disappointed with any time I spent in that trees company.

Haven’t been able to get to it for near enough 5 years now due to SPMS but in summer my mum fills little plastic vials with resin she collects from popping the bubbles on the trunk so I don’t totally miss out.

I’ve been to dozens over the years, but one stands out as being particularly shit. Probably the last time they played the Civic, only half full of punters and Miles decided that it was the crowds fault they had booked an overly optimistic venue.

Seen him/them since in smaller venues and they are back to their fantastic best.

On the other hand I have been disappointed in all of them compared to Trinity Sessions

Yeah, and this. Trinity Sessions was such a ridiculously high bar that very few albums by any artist have ever come close.

    How self-serving politicians are.

How unself-serving the NHS staff are.

How bloody stiff I feel before, during and after exercise since turning 40…every single time I do anything I also think I need to do some stretches every day – and I never do.

How amazing it is to see youngsters start getting into mountain biking and seeing them progress – all at different rates, but they all progress.

Great for a one off, like the first day of a holiday or when the weather is biblical outside, but so boring if repeated, you just end up wasting the morning. Such a waste of time. Also my kids like the odd ‘lazy day’ but again only as a one off.
Much more satisfying getting up at 6am on the weekend, going for a spin, getting all your chores out the way, have a lovely lunch then have a snooze in the afternoon, ideally in the sun. Only needs to be half an hour.
