After careful analysis of my current bike stable I find to my surprise that I’m a bike short. I need a utility bike – one that can be ridden to the shops (pub) with out too much risk but also can be thrashed round the local wood – It needs to be used by both daughters and myself
So I’m thinking steel hardtail frame (love the feel) – geared (already have a ss) – cheep but relatively light build – give me your thoughts on frame & components

Standard on one inbred with rigid steel forks (if they can still be brought) built with deore/SH components.

    kona ute.

supposed to be one size fits all, good for carrying stuff, and i bet they are a hoot offroad, even if its just because you have to worry about your turning circle

    something with and alfine hub.
slot dropout inbred, as suggested above, but with an alfine.
then theres no gear crunching for Miss and Miss BNS to be complaining about.
    low maintenence too….

Olly – thinking more the local newsagent rather then tesco – so the Kona might be overkill – but something with hub gears might be interesting
