  • Hugo, Scraper or Dually?

Right, looking at building out a set of 27.5+ wheels to try on my Solaris (and maybe my old Sultan)

Going to be fitting Vee Rubber 2.8″ Tyres.

    Hubs are sorted.

So last choice is the rim – Hugo, Scraper or Dually?

    Any reccomendations/preferences?

    Cheers,

    Paul

I’ve got duallys in 35 & 45mm width (29er) and they’ve been faultless so far, not the lightest but my other bike is a fatty so they seem light compared to that

    Interesting.

Weight wise, I think the Dually and Scraper are on par.

I’m discounting the Hugo for now- I think it’s potentially too wide.

How much clearance does the Solaris have between the stays?

I have duallys and hugos and I’m far more convinced about the tubeless capability of the bead on the hugo… but that could just be my imagination, I’ve not had any problems with either yet although the hugo was easier to mount tubeless.

Nemesis- need to measure that on the Solaris, and on the Turner.

Clobber & Rocketdog: did you have to do anything other than putting on some tubeless rim tape (like from Stans) on the Velocity Dually in order to make it work (tubelessly)? What tires are you using with this rim?

I was interested in getting the 45mm 650b Dually rim, but wanted to make sure that it worked tubeless without any jury rigging. Thanks!

I use a 26″ 35mm Dually tubeless – I just put a wrap of Stans to cover the spoke holes.

Lots of electrical tape on the dually to get a knard to seal properly but it was a wirebead one and impossible without an air compressor… So could be tyre related, been fine since it’s been up…

Chronicles on Duallies go up dead easy, just one wrap of Gorilla tape on mine. Have stayed up really well for ages under some pretty heavy use.

Running a Dually 29er (tubless) on the back of my half fat and although faultless it does need re inflating every other week.
My 29er Hugo’s on my 29er+ are fantastic.
If I was to choose one ot would be the Hugo for sure

Sultan was a no go, but the Solaris worked perfectly…

Hugo user her on Vee Trax Fatty.

Popped on tubeless in 5 pumps. No pressure loss at all. Very happy.

Paul, what did you end up choosing?

I am looking at Scraper, Hugo, Mulefut and Dually for a 29+ wheelset.

Also curious to know what hubs you selected.

    Thanks.

I’m running Scrapers and they’re easily tubeless using the 50mm WTB rim tape. Have a look at the DT Swiss XM551 too.

DT XM 551. Lighter and cheaper than any of the above and plenty wide

With 2.8 you might want to also check over wtb asym i35, cheaper about £50 and 545g with a good wtb tubeless bead and 35 internal. Also they are supposed to be bringing out wider Easton Arc rims soon.

I’m struggling a bit with burpage on my Dually on the front. Could be my cack-handed taping…..
