In the cut and thrust and tunnel vision of the first lap I (and some behind me) followed a chap I was chasing the wrong way after the ride down the boggy stream descent (failing to turn left onto the “trail centre” singletrack) and ended up doing an extra loop before arriving back on the course where we had left it

Before the start I had been hoping for a top 20 finish, but I didn’t help myself doing that.

Maybe I’ll put some less bald tires on this time, and learn to deal with mud better!

I’m sure I could have done much better if I wasn’t spending most of the lap going slow just trying to stay upright. 😳

I’ve always struggled with mud, on the MTB and motocross/enduro bikes (in the past) – need help with it to be honest!

Got to love the HtN mud.
Sewage with a hint of landfill, bleach and typhoid.
Just a whiff makes me come over all unnecessary about it….
