Looks like we can break 1100bhp but only with the sheer volume of vehicles we have! 1102bhp for us:

We’ve just got a new hoover, it’s 1400W, that very nearly 2 horsepower! In a hoover! No wonder the world is so energy hungry!

    (Cars: i3 170bhp, 335 300bhp,
Seat 600 odd, so call it 1072 for the family when we are hoovering…..

I’m just going to pop this link in here, well, just for the awesomeness, I remember reading this thread a long while back…

My 1989 mr2 turbo, 397bhp. Used to run 12.1 sec 1/4 mile @125mph. Haven’t raced it for years though.
    Vw t5 102bhp
    Peugeot 307 hdi 110bhp
    Wife’s rav4 150bhp I think.

Peugeot gets used most as it’s just a crap car I can leave anywhere and not worry about. Mr2 is hardly ever used, maybe couple of times a year and van is just used when I’m out on somewhere on the bike.

Surely, we need to do average family power to weight?

We’ll do without driver / passenger to avoid us all having to lie about our weight….. Even though that gives the 2wheeled organ donors an unfair advantage 😆

    i3: 170/1,195 = 7.03 kg/bhp
    335: 303/1,720 = 5.68 kg/bhp
    Ibitza: 627/842 = 1.34 kg/bhp

For an average of 4.68 kg for every horse to move around

    Wacker plate, 4.
Moki 210 model aircraft engine, 4.5 (yeah baby! :-)) )
    Various other model engines 10
Legs, not a fat lot atm.

During some basic cal work at Millbrook two years ago, since which it hasn’t really moved due to work commitments ;-( i recorded 2.46 sec to 60 on warm slicks, and 4.86 to 100…….. (it won’t do 125mph on the currently gearing)

    Land Rover – 165
    Jaag – 240
    Chainsaws, strimmers etc. = 15?
    Corrado – 160, but it’s not running
    Golf – 90, as above
    944 – 165, as above
    I’m also presently broken.
    Erm.. washing machine – 1/8

So I’ve got as much bhp laying about that I can’t use than that which I can, that’s wrong.

    420 useable / 415 unuseable. I won’t count the washing machine..

As per the first page of thread

    Mk2 Golf 192bhp and 962kg = 5kg per BHP or 200bhp/metric ton
    VW Caddy 148bhp and 1501kg = 10.14kg per BHP or 99bhp/metric ton
    Scott E-Genuis .8bhp and 22kg = 27.5kg per BHP or 36bhp/metric ton

The Scott is still the best fun 😀

It does 63mph in 1st, and just 115 in 6th! Basically feels like a whole box full of second gears…. 😉

That’s really quite a close ratio box! I followed your Seat’s build thread. It’s bloody fantastic, would love to have a look over it if it ever makes it out of the garage!

    Car – 115HP
    Van – 120HP
    Boiler – 20 KW = 26 HP
    2x Lawnmowers – About 5HP ?
Mountain bike – 0.2 HP average on a good day

Jeez! A neck snapper! Is it road legal?

My car 515bhp although according to this it’s more like 575bhp and does 0-60 in 3.5!
    Wifey’s car 309bhp
    Mower 4bhp
    Strimmer 0.5bhp

    That Seat is very cool!

Bikes are always good on paper – under 3s to 60, but all litre superbikes are rapid! Over 900bhp per ton, big impact when you’re sitting on it though…

Car is nearly 3 times as slow to 60, power to weight will be MUCH lower. Slightly more power but it’s a big lardy German estate. Much comfort than generally more practical.

It’s definitely not all about power

    C.max 100
    Fiesta 85
MG midget 85 (maybe? Who knows)
    Lawnmower, strimmer, 4 each?

180, which doesn’t seem much considering how much time gets spent on them!

    nothing german here. :-O

just mildly breathed on supermarket car park cars

    mondeo tdci 170bhp (130 standard)
fiesta st 165 bhp (148 standard)
saxo VTS 135 bhp (120 standard)

    470 bhp.

not just about horses though, the mondeo has bags of torque which makes it real easy to drive. the chav saxo is stripped out for track use and weighs around 860kg (935 as standard) so its little 135bhp suddenly becomes adequate.

Some actual horses here. Thing is though, a horse’s strength will vary so what is the actual benchmark of a horse power and how do you compare your horse against 1 hp?

Good question! I recall the term came from someone working out how much work a shire horse could do in a day and using that as a benchmark so suspect most shetlands are under-delivering!
