A friend is struggling to move the seatpost on her Cannondale Synapse.

It has a seatpost wedge, rather than a typical seat clamp, as shown here:

Any suggestions as to how to shift it so it will fit in a bike bag appreciated.

Have you removed the rubber cover to access the 4mm hex bolt ?

Have you then undone the bolt ?

Is the seat post still stuck ?

Loosen, but do not remove, the bolt. Then give it a quick tap with a hammer. It could be that the wedge is jammed (possible by the use of too much carbon assembly paste). You’re just trying to reduce the pressure that the wedge is applying. Once you’ve done that then it’s the usual stuck seatpost tricks (like putting the saddle in a vice and twisting the frame).

As above if it’s really stuck. Mine usually just needs a bang on the side of the nose of the saddle with my hand to free it up.

Stick it on the For Sale board here, be gone in no time.
