- How to remove DT Swiss 240 rear hub ring nut – rh or lh thread?
Yes – otherwise it would unwind when pedalling – esp in low gears.
They are a bit of a bitch to remove.
A vice to hold the tool, and a good sharp jerk tends to do it.
Good luck!
Posted 4 years agoOk cheers, looks like a bit more heat and abit more force!
Posted 4 years agoAnyone know what the thread direction is on a DT Swiss 240 rear hub ring nut? I’ve got the tool and Im assuming its a normal rh thread ie. it tightens as you ride. So to remove it with the tool clamped in the vice, you would turn the wheel clockwise ie. form the lhs?
Its very tight and cant seem to budge it, even with a little heat.
Is this the correct assumption?

CheersJust read again – it’s a regular RHYS thread, so if tool is in the vice, and you’re looking down on the wheel, you turn the wheel anti-clockwise.
I wouldn’t use any heat on it.
Posted 4 years agoDon’t heat it.Just get a friend to help.
Posted 4 years agoThought I was going to snap my spokes when I removed mine.
Posted 4 years agoI managed to snap my ‘proper’ Record vice undoing mine. Top tip, don’t use any threadlock when reassembling.
Posted 4 years agoOk I’ll give it another go tomorrow…
Posted 4 years agoWe recently removed one in the bike shop where i worked that needed a few days soaking with plus gas beforehand and using a 10″ vice to hold the tool, even then as we tried to remove it by two of us using the wheel for leverage it was a worrying moment when we noticed the spokes flexing and deforming the rim.
Posted 4 years agoIt’s just as well the bearing under there does not often need doing , I’ve never had one unscrew easily
