And thank you all for offers of bits – I think (apart from the fork) I should be good – I had a spare saddle that I have put on, the drivechain looks sound, the tyres still have a bit of life in them, the wheels are sound (I don’t foresee any issues stripping the hubs and cleaning them up). If anyone has a pair of grips knocking around though, that would be nice as the ones that are fitted are a little tatty.

    Thank you everyone 🙂

I may well have some grips as well, I’ll have a look.

I’ll DM you about a meet up. These are the forks, Suntour XCE. They cam on a frameset I got off here for my daughter but I swapped them straight away and I reckon the person that sold them to me didnt use them either.

Give the steerer a rub down and they’ll be reet. They go up and down anyway!

Edit: and yes, I’ll use anything as rags in the garage, even old boxers!!…

Thread resurrection – thank you ads678 – I handed the bike over today and he seemed pretty happy with it (as happy as he can ever express) so thank you very much!

Well done John and everyone else who contributed. One of the positive and kindly threads on here yet again. I’m sure the recipient will be very grateful,  even if they can’t fully articulate it. 👍

No worries. Even if he only uses it to go to the shop every now and then, it’s all good. Everyone should have a bike!

Yeah – when I dropped him off at his new home, he immediately asked his new carers if he could put it straight in the garage to make sure it’s safe – I take that as him being very happy with it.
