  • How to convert tyre width from inches to ??c

Okay so I’m looking at putting some slicks on my Vitus Dee 29er for a temporary commuting bike,

Please can anyone explain to me the conversion from the current 29″x2.1 tyre to a 700c x ??c tyre???

The rims are fairly wide, so I’d assume a wider tyre would be needed but whats the safest minimum I could get away with?

I’m struggling to find the information online, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1″ = 2.54cm, so 2.1″ = 53C

Of course, you’ll get away with something much slimmer if you want.

So the “C” is actually equivalent to centimeters without a decimal point?

    28c?

Ignore the “C” part for the purposes of tyre widths

28 would likely be a bit narrow on a MTB rim. 35 or so should be OK though.

Marathon Supremes are good fast rolling tyres. Comes in a 700×40. Pretty puncture proof as well.
