- How to carry a phone with no backpack ?
I prefer to ride with no backpack whenever possible.Posted 5 years ago
All my jerseys and jackets have got rear pockets, but I’m always worried that if I carry my phone there and perform an unscheduled dismount, I will roll on to it and damage it.
One jacket has got a small breast pocket. That seems to put the phone out of harm’s way, but it’s only one jacket.
I could do with some sort of secret agent gun holster type thing that will fit under any jersey.
Does anyone make such a thing ?

Sports armband strapped around the stem. Make sure it’s not sticking out anywhere where it’ll get knocked in a crash and maybe consider fitting a heavy duty protective case first. Also has the benefit of acting as a cycle computer if you run Strava or similar.
A cheap example, but available in all sorts of sizes 🙂Posted 5 years agoMidlandTrailquestsGrahamMember
I’ve already got a small saddle bag full of levers, hex keys and patches etc.
I’d thought about a frame bag, but wondered if the vibration from a hardtail with the forks locked out might kill a normal phone. It’s not built for it like a GPS.
Sports armband looks like exactly what I’m after thanks. I don’t know how I’ve never heard of them before.Posted 5 years ago
I wondered if the strap would be long enough to go round the upper arm or if it’s intended to be worn like a watch.

And put it in your jersey pocket…Posted 5 years agoDave ESubscriberPeterPoddyMember
What would you do though if, for example, your bottom bracket failed 20 miles from home and nowhere near a bike shop?
Exactly the same thing I would have done in 1995 before I had a mobile phone.
But in actual fact I wouldn’t have been leaving home with a poorly maintained bike……. BBs don’t fail inexplicably, they go slowly over a period of a few to lots of rides. 🙂Posted 5 years ago
