- How to break a Shimano connecting pin without pliers?
I’ve got a few power links but was keeping them for mid-ride repairs.
Got a chain tool, but no holes anywhere.
Just broken a fork (table, not Bomber!)
wwaswas – I’d already had a half-hearted attempt at that method!
There’s a power link already in the chain so I’ve got it off the bike. Wandering around the house looking for small holes and wondering if a door hinge would work!
EDIT: Kitchen scissors! They won’t do much cutting again, but at least the chain pin’s off!Posted 4 years ago
I have general kitchen utensils (just broken the tin opener), assorted allen keys, a puncture repair kit and a nipple key.
I’ve just shortened the chain by a few links (new cassette), reattached it with Shimano connecting pins (the double length ones) but now have the extra poking through. No tools in the new house yet…
I’m being mostly sensible. If the chain isn’t repaired tonight, I’m driving the wife to work….again…!
