yes my mistake someone else said and you posted it up because you were livid at their stupidity [nice rant BTW] and were in no way supporting this view despite working out the loss to the economy [did someone else do this as well?] and then claiming the loss was

    actually really significant.

Was neither a witty not a shitty reply Very disappointing

whilst those billionaiires scroungers get wed.

    But my OP said:-

surely it would have been more patriotic for the royals to have their Wedding on a weekend,

Or in other words the exact opposite of what you are suggesting.
😆 yes thats more like it the opposite of gettng wed is indeed getting wed Thanks

    what DaveyBoyWonder said.

like many people, I’ve taken 3 days to get 11 – why the hell not? I have to take them some time, may as well be now. The department is not completely unmanned.

and if you think people are going to give up their public holidays AND work for free, you’re in a dreamworld

allegedly will cost the uk 30bn

No, it won’t cost anything. What it will do is mean that some stuff gets made and/or bought and/or consumed a few days later than it would do otherwise.

This is precisely why the national obsession with GDP is so ludicrous. The sooner we stop thinking that this measure of how fast we can churn through stuff is important the better.

Have a day off and stop stressing.

I’m having Kate and Andrew tattooed on my eyelids as I type this. Is that patriotic enough?

never mind which prince it is, the real question is ‘inside’ or ‘outside’?

what has supporting the royal wedding got to do with patriotism ?

    can’t you be a republican and a patriot ?

A true test of English patriotism is measured by how you say “patriot”.

    “Pattriot” = English
    “Paytriot” = US

A simple “yes you are right” would have done…..

yes you are right you went to the trouble of posting up a comment by someone in your office on the interweb, working out the cost which you call significant, but you definetly dont want any of us to actually do this which is not at all clear from your original post.
It seems a stupid thing to do so yes I accept it is conceivable you did this 😉
saying that though you did have the brains to drop the wedding argument 😆

    +1

Even the way it is reported is annoyed given it is an aggregate – some sectors grew, some contracted.

Patriotism: the unwavering belief that somewhere is superior simply by virtue of the fact you were born there.

    Doesn’t make sense to me.
    That’s because you’re English, no?

I quite like living in the UK, it’s nice. But I want to live in France and America as well. I quite like the idea of the Royal wedding as well, it’s sort of exciting (I know it’s unfashionable round here to like it, but don’t care)

I wonder if the hotel business is suffering though? There was a local report on the telly that said Brighton had had an estimated £40 million increase in revenue because the weather was so nice last weekend

Like I said a simple yes would have done 8)

saying that though you did have the brains to drop the wedding argument

I don’t beleive I did….. it is entirely possible however that I couldn’t be bothered to re-explain the glaringly obvious though.

not that I am aware of I was just trying to goad them into an argument on a slow day but unfortunately they can only put forward poor , disingenuous or incorrect argument/s to prove they are correct. Not as amusing as I hoped for I fear we may have both let the side down
I suspect stupid boy takes that as meaning they were right though 🙄

So not mentioning it all is not dropping it Another excellent point 😉

not patriotic because i just happened to be born here, i like where i live But i could like somewhere else just as much … im not brainwashed (like some) that the land we live in is worth dying for, we are Only borrowing it for the short period of time that we’re here!
and as far as those “royal” foreign, land and wealth thieves … Pah!
who’s paying for this here wedding then??? PAH!

When my 1st born was 2 I taught her the words to jerusalem. Whilst at the in laws in Wales with 15 of the welsh family sat round the TV watching the england wales 6 nations game, little one hears the word england and pipes up her rendition of jerusalem. Some ashen welsh faces… I cried then.

The trouble with patrotism is that a large proportion of the population use it as a thinly vieled disguise for tribalism.

Quite patriotic – which is why I’m looking forward to the SNP taking overall control in Scotland & us finally having a referendum on independence.

If the referndum answer is yes, the royal family will NOT be required north of the border any longer thank you.

Ah … I’m long enough in the tooth to remember Alex being thrown out of the SNP for leading the Scottish Socialist Republic movement within the party.

Me thinks he says something different in private 😕

I’m all for the abolishment of the monarchy, but an idependent scotland comes first imo, not for any patriotic reasons mind, i just don’t think scotland is served as well as it could be or can be from westminster. We can deal with the monarchy shortly afterwards! 😀
