How many of you have jacked in a job?

I returned to work after 5 months following a serious car crash. On my first shift back as a Paramedic, I discovered equipment and drugs that had expired a week after my accident, in the response bag. Didn’t raise anything official, and just replaced everything and got on with my shift. I mentioned it in passing to my wife, a Paramedic at the same station, who was still off work with a broken back following our crash, and thought nothing more of it.
A couple of weeks later, our manager was visiting my wife to see how she was getting on, and the expired kit came up in conversation. Nothing malicious, just a passing remark on my return to full time duty.
The manager sent an email to the station asking if staff could be more vigilant in their daily checks, and left it at that. No blame laid, or threats of discipline etc. just a reminder.
I later read an email from a “friend” to the manager saying “I hope this isn’t John and Velda coming back to cause trouble. We’ve been managing ok without them”.
I sent an email to the same manager expressing my feelings, and got no support, so handed in my notice.
Much happier, but poorer, in my new job.

felt sweet each time, i am unemployable, should be self employed and was for many years,

Not for many years. Once worked in a restaurant and got progressively worse and worse shifts, shorter and shorter like 2 hours friday, sat and sunday nights at about £2.80 an hour. 3 weeks into it I told the manageress where to stick her rota.

mleh, I just got a verbal warning despite the minor mistakes being that of 4 people! I think I’m getting “managed out” 😀

I’ve done it twice… The first time was a part time uni job so held no real significance… An employee scratched my car as ‘a prank’… I was was very precious about said car and proceeded to throw bike cleaning chemical in said employees face just before he fell to the ground somehow, I left before I was fired.

The second time was a really tough decision. My employer was cutting everyone’s pay by 12.5% due to the recession, however I was already paid poorly and infact the paycut took me back to less than when I started 5 years ago. I said I would leave if it was enforced… So I found another job and did. HOWEVER, my new job although paying double was managed by some complete jokers, I worked for 4 days before leaving the car and laptop in the car park at the head office with a note to te director explaining all… Fortunately my old employer took me back… At 12.5% less of course… All very embarassing and a low point of my life.

Fortunately I survived another year and secured an awesome job which I love, I feel very fortunate that I wake up and actually want to go to work.

I say jump ship, but have a plan, and the grass is not always greener.

Yep. Found one of the graduates pay details on my bosses desk so I left my resignation letter on top of that. (They were getting paid the same as me which I found a bit disappointing) Best thing I ever did. Gave me a gateway to a much better job.

Did a few months ago, set up my own company and so can type this now without getting sacked, best thing i ever did…well not quite but still pretty good to be in charge of my life at last…

ive walked from last employer (did have somthing else lined up)told my boss exactly what i thought of him and his managment style industry iam in is a small world so do normal have to be a bit careful what you say and to whom but this guy was a complete t**t so it needed saying whatever got out and about.

At my previous job I was totally fed up with how things were, my boss was an arse, and as a result wasn’t pulling my weight. I’d been looking at moving on anyway when my OH decided she was applying for a job elsewhere. So I sat it out for a bit, she got offered the job which meant a move back to where I grew up.

As a result I started looking for work down that way. In the meantime I had a meeting with my current employer where my boss advised me to start looking for work. The same day I got offered the first job I’d gone for down this way.

So I went in to work the following day, handed my notice in, said it’d be nice if I could leave there and then. My line manager who I got on with asked what I was going to do, as the previous days news must’ve been a shock…. so I told him I was moving away and already had a new job. They thought they had the upper hand in getting asking me to leave but I’d already manufactured everything.

Sad thing is I’ve had a good few years in this job, but I feel like I’m going back to how I was towards the end of my previous job. It’s wearing me down a bit, I don’t really want to keep doing what I do at the moment, I don’t think I’m motivated enough to find a similar job at a new company. But I have no experience of anything else so would struggle to get a job doing something totally different, and if I did I’d have to take a hefty pay cut.

Yup in one job, I got made redundant after just over a year due to a “downturn” in profits – the MD was spunking it all on his new £1million mansion.

I realised the issue when I a letter from the pension provider on the secretaries desk – his considerably younger other half – stating that there were several missing payments from the fund, oh and the fact that we got paid out of his savings account by bankers draught one month!

So I was looking for work anyway and had secured a job with the company we subbied for.

Two days after being made redundant he called me as said they’d won a short term contract – 4 to 5 weeks work – would I consider coming back (the new job didn’t start for 6 weeks anyway) so I said yes on my terms; paid in cash, all overtime/night work (common in this industry) would be double and I worked when I wanted.

So 5 weeks down the line, I submit my invoice & take the money owing,he says to me “where do you want to be” I said “working in a stable company with a secure job”, he said “if you’d said the right thing he’d give me my job back”. I said, “I just did”, got up from the chair, said see ya and walked out.

Most satisfying indeed

i jacked in my last job, due to the stress of driving the 110 miles a day commute. I liked the job, company and the team i worked with. They offered me everything but homeworking to stay on. That was 3 years ago now unfortunately I don’t think i’ll ever have a proper job again.
