I think Gropecunt Lane in Glastonbury has now been renamed, but I remember seeing the sign a few years ago (well, quite a few – around 2002, I think).

Research suggested that there used to be a few paths around the country so named but that they were being renamed – I’m not really surprised.

If they are trying to do a direct translation the name should sound something like this “Want Chinng Chea” Or simply “Quay path/street”.

    😆

I’ve had a ban for posting a ‘dodgy name’ street sign before so be careful people…

On an audax a few weeks ago we went past the end of a lane called “Benny Hill”. We decided we were too knackered to stop and take a photo though.

After taking the original pic when wondering around a French city, I found this bubblegum for sale in one of the shops:

Well, if we’re doing product names as well, few things come close to these. Saw them with my own eyes in Turkey once. I guess some things don’t translate exactly…..

There’s a St. Peter’s Crescent near me. Named after St. Peter’s church, a few yards away. It’s full of flats populated by old people.

Except it’s not a Crescent. Never has been. It’s a short cul de sac. The sort of road you’d normally expect to be named a Close.

We have a Cul de Sac at the end of our road called ‘Helens Close’.

Now, I don’t know who Helen is or how bad ass her reputation is but I do find myself checking over my shoulder when I walk past the sign.

Oh and my ‘Street name’ is J-Dogg obviously.

As I said, not a real one.

No, but I now cannot pronounce it the way the planners intended. 😆
