nope, but if it’s a cold then anything that makes you feel better.

General rule is all remedies work as the cold gives up in the end 😉

@ton – I’d prefer the hot lemon & honey drink, then a nice Ardbeg after it.
It might not work but it makes you feel a little better.

It helps in that it treats the symptoms a bit, so you feel a bit of relief whilst your immune system does the heavy lifting.

But why not, I still have hot herby/spicy alcaholic drinks washed down with paracetamol and ibrubrofen when I’ve got a bad cold.

    Like an artisan lemsip 🙂

Worst that happens is that you had a whisky cocktail. No bad thing.

I go as far as a proper strong hot blackcurrant with a couple of paracetamol and ibuprofen smashed up in it.

Works at least as well as lemsip.

Down side is you don’t really taste the Ardbeg!!

Night Nurse, the one that ‘helps you sleep’. Always used it after a nightshift, with or without a cold!

When I was a kid we always got Rum, Benylin, Ribena, Hot Water – equal measures

Oh, and whisky to dab on aching teeth

Lemsip is just paracetamol in a vaguely lemon flavored hot drink.

I’d say just neck a generic paracetamol and generic ibrubrofen and then drink a hot toddy. Or a hot mulled wine, or hot mead. Or whatever.

Chai, as in Indian style tea with spices. Cinnamon is anti bacterial

I had a snotty cold on Christmas Day. Drank a load, including a few whiskies before bed, woke up much better. Ergo, whisky is now my go to cure in my book 🙂

Unpasteurized buckwheat honey, lemon juice, tumeric, cinnamon in hot whiskey/Brandy.

All have shown promise in reducing the severity, longevity of symptoms of coughs colds throat infections etc. Plus it tasted nice. and you have to do something with the ceao whiskey/Brandy.

Dad’s recipe was hot water, Irish whisky, a thick slice of lemon pierced with whole cloves and brown sugar.

For a tickly cough or sore throat honey and hot blackcurrant works. A shot of ginger wine (the proper thick stuff) diluted with hot water also works.

This is why Bell’s is on the shelf in your local supermarket. Perfect to pep up the cold/flu sachet of your choice along with some honey. Then a nice malt to take the taste away.

My son’s coach always swears by an apple and ginger or lemon and ginger shot (with paprika to burn the throat!).

Yes hot toddy works, but lemsip works better.

Big bowl of hot water, Olbas Oil and Vicks lobbed in, towel over the head and a glass of bourbon within easy reach. Job jobbed!

PSA – If making a hot toddy with your last shot of whisky, make sure it’s caster sugar you are adding along with the lemon juice.

    Not a teaspoon of salt.

    lemsip works better.

Paracetamol is also available in tablet form. Besides that it does exactly the same thing.

I think lemsip also contains a decongestant

BITD when I’d had a full on manflue thing going on and the remnants of it where still hanging on the best way to get shot of it was to go to an all nighter and get a load of pills and speed in me.
    Worked every time.
To a lesser extent the old nurofen cold and flu tablets that contained methanphetamine also worked.
Unfortunatley they no longer have it in them as it now seems to have been banned.
Even further back in the day contact400 were even better/faster.😜

I was in Austria on a boarding trip when I got a sticking killer cold. Was reading Band of Brothers at the time so bought a bottle of schnapps and a apple strudel – down them both. Was so much better in the morning.

Since then I do the same – except its a third of whisky instead. Works for me.
