Read on here somewhere the 12mm axle on Pro 2 rear hubs are susceptible to breaking, and that the new Pro3 is stronger

I am running this at the moment

Is it a disaster waiting to happen, or rare occurence?

    thx

Any hub will break if you try hard enough.

Just stick with what you have…

Some riders break them every few rides, some get years of use. You might be fine, or upgrade the hub to Evo with a stronger axle… that’s what I did.

You can upgrade the internals to Pro 3 if/when it breaks.

I’ve been using 12mm axles on Hope Pro II hubs since 2006 and never had one snap. Just be careful with a Maxle light axle as the middle section is machined away so doesn’t support the axle in the same way as a normal style Maxle (or other 12mm axles).

rickos – I’m using a 12mm Shimano thru axle so sounds like that’s okay?

    cheers fella

Yep, problems when using a Maxle lite, but fine with solid through-axle.

I happen to have a fitted, but unused, 12X135mm Pro2 kit for sale, and a Superstar 12mm axle. email in profile…
