I’m thinking of moving my office away from rent to a home set up.

Would like an insulated summer House/home office for winter and summer usage.

Needs to be secure as practical. Don’t need many windows if at all.

Off the shelf/bespoke whatever. Good companies… Experiences?

Rubbish at DIY and I don’t want a cheap job. So I’m not fussed about saving lots of cash. Budget £5-8k

Those guys look good but didn’t return my call last year.

    Suggestions please? East Midlands/Sheffield/Nottingham area.

    10×8

    Thanks.

If you were good at DIY you’d have a few more options. I’m currently working from ‘the shed’. Ours was a self assembly summer house – only overlap panels and fairly cheap. assembled it myself with a decked patio and raised planters, but then set about installing insulation (used the laminated bubble wrap type material, then ply lined the whole thing. Installed electrics and lights myself using armoured cable, all painted and decorated inside. All that more than tripled the cost of the shed.

It’s only 6×8 and was really something for my wife to do her crafts in, but it’s become an office. We don’t secure it as it’s not that secure – front is mainly perspex and two doors – easy to kick in, so laptop and screen comes out every night.

For your budget you’ll get something very nice, but there may be extra work to insulate it as most are single walled. Even the ‘basic’ insulation works exceptionally well – stops the heat build up in summer – it’s quite pleasant working in there considering how hot an un-insulated shed gets in direct sun.

Looks like I’ll be here for another 6 months.

Nice company to deal with. We’ve had ours for five years now. I think if you want something like you show in your link, you’ll be doubling your budget. Ours is ~4mx3m and came in at around 11.5k excl VAT

The company seems to have grown a great deal in the last 5 years and has two showrooms now. They gave a small discount before if you actually visited the showroom and offered a free site visit beforehand to check suitability.

There does seem to be a gap in the market between the rustic self assembley and these guys!

    Thanks so far for that.

That’s really smart CB. Can increase budget if needs be.

Worth taking a look at this thread, a fabulous build.

One thing I noticed in Dunster’s log cabin range is that some have a low internal roof height which is fine if you’re under 6’2″.

Got a 3mx3m Tuin Riina late last year, cost me 2k, 58mm logs, really high pitched ceiling, would leave loads of wiggle room for a bigger one if you wanted, insulation and build cost.

Got the mesh wifi going out, powered, heated, lighting, and a nice cosy sofa, Love it.

Couple of wee jobs to do on it yet, nearly there.

    Some lovely set-ups.

Wonder why they are all so obsessed with massive windows? I suppose people want to look out on to the garden … but it’s an office. Surely security would come a little higher up the requirements…

I’m just awaiting delivery of my Riina (same as nobeer, above) and will cheat by having a local carpenter erect it.
Total budget, with insulation and electrics will hopefully be less that £3k, and I can’t wait!

Lots of threads on here. Here is my build. Did all myself except final plaster skim and final connection of the RCD to the mains. It wasnt that difficult really. Some bits were backbreaking the whole thing was just a hobby and most people could do it if they are prepared to stick at it.

I’ll be building something similar to surfers next spring, have a 8×12 pent shed in my garden as well, gonna build a 8×16, with a slightly higher roof, and have it split so it’s a wee workshop, and an area for turbo, treadmill and weights area.

Sounds like a great excuse to get proper, insulated 4 season yurt 🙂 Minimal windows and lots come with a nice big dome at the top to let in daylight. Looks within budget with cash left over for a permanent floor etc.

One thing I noticed in Dunster’s log cabin range is that some have a low internal roof height which is fine if you’re under 6’2″.

I’m only 6ft, but referring back to my thread, I’ve managed to fit a light in the middle that I can easily walk under. You tend not to stand under the eaves 😊👍
